Elias Perez

Elias Perez, age 56, passed away this previous Saturday morning, July 7, 2018 while surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 4, 1961 to Elias and Isaida Perez in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. He was the second of six children born in the family and the first son, and as such, he bore his father’s name. Elias would go on to eventually marry Emiko Arakaki in Okinawa, Japan on May 7, 1987 and the two of them would beget two sons, Elias and Kadmiel Perez. From his birth, Elias was strong, intelligent and loyal, as both a son and a brother. Never one to simply follow the crowd, Elias truly lived life his own way. He was steadfast in his beliefs and would regularly and proudly stand against the winds of resistance in the name of being true to himself. As a young man, Elias was popular, charismatic, and adventurous. His friends would call him “Rocky” because of his long-flowing hair that would eventually yield to his genes. His sense of strength, independence, and adventure would eventually lead Elias to join the Marines. During this time, his leadership, determination, and constant search for perfection would support the success he had in the Marine Corps. All of these traits would continue to help Elias thrive in life, even after leaving the Marines, as he built a comfortable life from scratch for his family. And this was important because at the end of the day, Elias valued family above all else. As a husband and father, Elias was passionate, dedicated, and deeply loving. His true joy in life came from seeing his wife and sons find success and happiness in their lives and he did what he could to lift them up. His love and sacrifice watered the seeds of his legacy, ensuring that he will be remembered long after this print fades away. He will be deeply missed as a son, brother, co-worker, Marine, husband, and father. A service will take place at 11:00am on Friday, July 13, 2018 at Bevis Funeral Home, 200 John Knox Rd. Interment will take place following the service at Tallahassee National Cemetery, 5015 Apalachee Pkwy. with military honors. Scotti Barden is assisting the Perez family with their arrangements.
