Fenton Garnett Avant

Fenton Garnett Avant, child of God, died May 10, 2016. She was born August 11, 1960 in Tallahassee, Florida to parents George Davis Avant and Gayle Elizabeth Christensen Avant. She was named for her grandmother Fenton Garnett Davis Avant and was the first granddaughter for maternal grandparents Carl Andrew and Elizabeth Turner Christensen and paternal grandparents David Alonzo and Fenton Garnett Davis Avant. She was raised in the Christian faith, baptized at First Presbyterian Church, made her confession of faith at Faith Presbyterian Church. She was a dear sweet person who loved her family and friends. Garnett graduated from Godby High School and was active in the Civinettes, Thespians Drama Club and Chorus. She was the first fifth generation graduate of FSU in her family with a double Major in Art History and Spanish with a minor in Italian. She was in the Glee Club Chorus and Gamma Phi Beta Sorority and enjoyed studying at the FSU program in Florence, Italy and in Costa Rica. Her degree in Art History helped her in her work at the Special Collections department at the Strozier Library. The family has many works of art she created. She graduated from Keiser College with a Degree in Computer Graphics and Design. Garnett was an excellent horsewoman riding in shows and receiving ribbons. She was a Girl Scout; member of Faith Presbyterian Church and the PW Angel Circle; Colonial Dames of the Seventeen Century; Daughters of the American Revolution; United Daughters of the Confederacy; PEO Chapter GR; Tallahassee Camellia Society; American Camellia Society; Gamma Phi Beta Alumnae and the Women of the Moose. Garnett was preceded in death by her father George Davis Avant. Survivors are her Mother Gayle Avant, sister Inger Maria Avant, brother George Davis Avant, Jr. (Leanne); cousins David Avant III (Jessica), Neville, Marshall (Arlene), David & George McJunkin, Andrew (Linda Ann) & David (Paula) Christensen, Amanda Knox Vestal (Andy), Ashby (Caroline)& Carlyle (Faison) Knox; Aunts and Uncles Andrew and Suzanne Christensen of Moultrie, Maria & Thomas Knox of Asheville, Aunt Anne Logue and Uncle Morgan McJunkin of Lake Placid; Nieces Leah Mayne (Ryan) and Callie Avant; Nephew George Avant III and great nieces Kaylea and Lily Mayne. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m Thursday at the Mother’s residence. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 13th at Faith Presbyterian Church, with internment to follow at Roselawn Cemetery. Thank you from the family to the loving staff at Seven Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center, TMH Rehabilitation Center and Hospice. Because of Garnett’s love for animals, memorial contributions may be made to the Leon County Animal Shelter or Faith Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
