On a warm day under the Florida sun, the tide gently carried away one of Tallahassee’s brightest, most beloved souls. Marcina Petrandis Showalter, born March 31, 1958, to Mamie and Jim Petrandis, danced her way into this world with music in her veins, sand between her toes, and laughter always close behind. From the very beginning, Marcina was magnetic. She wasn’t just voted Most Popular Girl at Leon High School—she lived it. Everyone wanted to be near her. She turned everyday moments into celebrations and made people feel like they belonged. Her presence was electric, her laugh unforgettable, and her style all her own. Marcina was an artist in the truest sense—painting, decorating, cooking, and creating a home that radiated love and color. Her life was filled with beauty: the glass she painted, the meals she served, the music she danced to, and the friends she cherished. The beach was her sanctuary. But Marcina didn’t go for quiet contemplation—she went for sunbathing, dancing, and a party. It was her perfect setting: sun on her skin, music in the background, and people she loved nearby. One of her most treasured memories was having Tom and the Cats, her favorite band, play at her wedding. That celebration reflected her spirit—lively, loving, and full of rhythm with the friends and family she cherished. Marcina is survived by her devoted husband, John Showalter; her brother, Jimmy Petrandis; his wife, Emily; and her cousins, Elaine, Johnny, Kathy and Nick Camechis. She adored her Tennessee family: Greg, Deena, Jessica, Lena, Rayne, Bobby, and Kate. She also leaves behind a circle of beloved friends in Tallahassee, who were truly part of her chosen family. Please join us for a Celebration of Life on Sunday, August 10, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the American Legion, 229 Lake Ella Drive, Tallahassee, FL. We invite everyone to bring a photo or memory to share. Come dressed in beachy colors, sundresses, linen shirts, and flip-flops—whatever reminds you of Marcina’s joyful, sunlit presence. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Margaret Z. Dozier Hospice House in Tallahassee, Florida, whose compassionate care made Marcina’s final days peaceful. Let us remember her the way she would want: dancing in the sand, basking in the sun, and surrounded by love.
