Alice M. Stone

Alice Merritt Stone, 83, of Shalimar, Florida passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017 in Tallahassee, Florida with family by her side. Alice, the youngest of eight children, was born in Fort Fairfield, Maine on July 5, 1933. She graduated from Fort Fairfield High School in 1950. Following her heart and warmer weather, Alice later moved to Hastings, Florida where she married her love, George Thomas Stone, on July 2, 1955. In the following years, Alice and George happily welcomed four children, Tom, Nancy, Jon and James. George’s career in the Air Force brought their growing family across the country and abroad, including destinations such as Texas, Oklahoma, Maryland, New York, and Germany, eventually settling in what would become their home of over 40 years, Shalimar, Florida. Alice dedicated her life to the Lord, family, and friends. A woman of service, she was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Walton Beach. There, she taught and directed the English language ministry and was a leader in Sunday school classes for many years. She, along with her husband, also participated in several mission trips. Alice was a natural caregiver. Her kind, warm, and thoughtful nature will be how she is most remembered by those blessed enough to have known her. Alice is survived by her devoted husband, George; their children Tom Stone (Barbara), Nancy Barnett, Jon Stone (Betty), and James Stone (Elaine); fourteen grandchildren, Jessica Hudson (Ben), Kaley Krick (Brandon), Alicia Stone, Eric Barnett (Crystal), Daniel Stone, David Stone, Samuel Stone (Lexius), Elise Stone, Katie Stone, Christine Stone (Nathanael), Carrie Stone, Courtney Stone, Timothy Stone, and Matthew Stone; and three great grandchildren, Logan Krick, Parker Stone, and Ellie Hudson. A memorial service will be held on 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Bevis Funeral Home in Tallahassee, Florida located at 2710 North Monroe St. In lieu of flowers, donations in Alice’s memory may be made to First Baptist Church of Fort Walton Beach, FL.
