Alisa Gunter Goldberg

It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the death of Alisa Gunter Goldberg, who passed away on December 20, 2024, at the age of 66. A woman of grace, intellect, and profound kindness, Alisa touched the lives of everyone she encountered on her journey through life. Born on August 23, 1958, in Marianna, Florida, to the late Jacob "Jake" G. Gunter and Ann Gunter, Alisa's exceptional character shone brightly from an early age. As valedictorian of her graduating class at Marianna High School, she epitomized dedication and brilliance, paving the way for her academic achievements at Chipola Junior College and Auburn University. A proud Auburn Tiger, Alisa graduated in 1980 with a degree in Business Administration and Finance; her passion for Auburn continued throughout her life. Alisa's career was one of service and impact that started at the First Bank of Marianna. In 1986 she relocated to Tallahassee, where she began her nearly 40-year tenure with the State of Florida in the Comptroller's Office in the Department of Banking and Finance. Her expertise in securities regulation was renowned, and she played a pivotal role in protecting Florida investors from financial misconduct. Alisa's pioneering spirit led to innovations such as an electronic examination module and web-based training programs, earning her multiple Davis Productivity Awards. Perhaps her most notable accomplishment was overseeing an examination that resulted in the return of $300 million to investors—a testament to her commitment to justice and integrity. Her colleagues often described Alisa as a brilliant and fearless advocate, yet those who knew her best celebrated her humility, humor, and compassion. In 2022, Alisa's efforts culminated in a prestigious Outstanding Team Service Award for her work with NASAA, solidifying her legacy as a trailblazer in securities regulation. For the last several years, Alisa has been the Director of Securities for the State of Florida. For all her professional achievements, Alisa’s greatest joys lay in her personal life. It was in Tallahassee that she met Stuart Goldberg. Their serendipitous encounters at the community mailbox blossomed into an enduring relationship for nearly forty years. Married in 1992, the couple welcomed their beloved son, Aaron, in 1998. Aaron was the center of Alisa's universe—her pride and joy - motherhood her most cherished role. Alisa was a woman of warmth and generosity, her heart as big as her accomplishments. Her holiday traditions were legendary, especially her lovingly crafted Christmas baskets, which brought joy to friends and family, near and far. She found happiness in the simple pleasures of life: digging her hands into the earth of her garden, sinking her toes into the sand at the beach, and losing herself in the pages of a good book. Her unwavering devotion to the Auburn Tigers was infectious, and game days were celebrations of her unyielding spirit. Those who loved Alisa will remember her as a light in their lives, her laughter echoing in their memories and her kindness imprinted on their hearts. Alisa is survived by her husband, Stuart, her cherished son, Aaron, and countless friends and colleagues who were blessed to know her. The family invites friends and loved ones to honor Alisa’s life during a visitation on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Bevis Funeral Home, 200 John Knox Road, Tallahassee, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions made to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas—a cause close to Alisa’s heart. Alisa’s legacy of love, strength, and selflessness will endure. While the world feels a little dimmer without her, the impact she made will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those she touched.
