Angus Douglas Williams, Jr.

Angus Douglas Williams, Jr. died peacefully in Tallahassee on January 10, 2023. He was born in Graceville, Florida in February of 1929 to Nellie Floy and Angus Douglas Williams. A University of Florida graduate, Doug served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War before pursuing a thirty-year career as an insurance agent in Panama City, where he raised a family and retired before later moving to Tallahassee. Doug was faith-filled, kind, loving and funny. He cherished time with family and friends. He was a great dance partner, average golfer, and lifelong Gators fan. Equal to his zest for life was his huge heart and notable appetite. “Just call me boiled ham - I’m always ready!” he quipped when asked to help a friend, lend a hand at church, or join a road trip to see the grandchildren. His generous, inclusive spirit drew new and old friends and family near at every stage of life. Doug’s faith burned bright and quiet throughout his life. His belief that “we are all God’s children” - a lesson his grandfather “Preacher” Wilson delivered sermons on - was evident in how he treated everyone. Doug was a member of Killearn United Methodist Church, Allegro Men’s Club, Tallahassee Kiwanis Club, SLUGS (Slow-Moving, Light-Hearted, Unskilled Golfers Society), Greens of Killearn Social Committee, and the Williams Family Reunion at Galilee Methodist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty Frank Sandusky Williams, his wife Bobbie Woodham Williams, and his sister Elaine Smith. Doug is survived by his beloved sweetheart of many years, Mary “Bunny” Smith, his daughters Genie James and Sheila Hardeman, his granddaughter Shelley Hardeman, grandson Terry Hardeman and – as he called them - his “sweet gumdrop grandchildren,” Aila and Garret Hardeman. His extended family included nephews, Chip Mikell and Doug Smith, niece, Floy Busby, and daughters-of-his-heart, Cindy Smith, and Cathy Seymoe. Visitation will be Sunday, January 15th, at Bevis Funeral Home from 2 – 4 pm. Services will be held Monday, January 16th, at 11 am (EST) at Killearn United Methodist Church, 2800 Shamrock Street S, Tallahassee. Burial will follow at 2:00 pm (CST) at Greenwood Cemetery in Panama City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; and/or Killearn United Methodist Church.
