Bessie Mae Daws Herold

Bessie Mae Daws Herold (98) arrived in Heaven on August 13, 2024 at 1:21am. She was born on November 24, 1925 to parents Oma Mae Hatfield Daws and William Layfette Daws in Jamestown, Tennessee. She was the second sibling of seven children. Her family moved to Monticello, Florida when Bessie was only one. She graduated from Jefferson County High School and later met the love of her life, Leslie “Cupid” Herold, at Lake Miccosukee. They were married for 64 years before his passing in 2010. Bessie ran the family business, Belle-Vue Grocery Store, on West Pensacola Street from 1950 until they sold the property in the late 60s. She also retired from the Leon County Clerk of Courts, Traffic Division and was a charter member of Calvary United Methodist Church. Bessie was preceded in death by her parents and her husband as well as her son Arthur and step-son Sandy; siblings Cecil Daws (sister in-law Marilyn Daws), William Daws, Jr., Ethel Daws Axson (brother in-law Bill Axson), Iva Connell (brother in-law Nobie Connell); sister in-law Colleen Daws and son in-law Fred Hartsfield; grandchildren Leon Butler, Jr., Randal Butler, Esther Mae Butler and Mollie Lynn Butler; great-grandson Matthew Craven. Survivors include her other brothers Richard Daws and Herbert Daws; sister in-law Anita Daws; daughters Esther Harrison (Tommy), Deanie Hartsfield, Margaret Roberson (Ralph), step-daughter Mollie Butler Taylor and daughter in-law Janie Herold; grandchildren Leslie Fred Butler (Lynn), Mary Margaret Butler, Carl Herold (Patty), Sherrie Craven, David Herold (Laura), Tom Harrison (Holly), Andy Harrison (Kristin), Joey Harrison (Jessica), Michelle Hartsfield, Paul Hartsfield, Tracy Hartsfield, Eric Hartsfield (Adriana), Chris Roberson (Kiki), Matt Roberson (Beth) as well as many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and extended family members whom she adored. All that knew Bessie will remember her for her southern charm, devout faith and love of cooking and baking. She re-read the bible several times in her 98 years and lived by every word. You could often find her making homemade mayhaw or grape jelly, pear relish, poundcakes or coconut cakes to share with loved ones. She will be dearly missed. The family will be receiving guests for a visitation at Bevis Funeral Home on Friday, August 16, 2024 at 10:00am with a funeral service to follow at 11:00am.
