Betty Bass Hicks

Betty Bass Hicks, 87, of Tallahassee, Florida passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023. She was born in Wetumpka, Alabama and had been a resident in Prattville, Tallassee, and Montgomery, Alabama before moving to Tallahassee in April 2000. Before retiring, Betty worked at Maxwell Air Force Base and Gunter Air Force Base, both in Montgomery in several administrative assistant positions. She attended Meridian Woods Church of Christ and Timberlane Church of Christ, both in Tallahassee, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Jack E. Hicks; son, David E. Hicks; three brothers, Wilford Bass, Sherwood Bass, Harding Bass; and two sisters, Myrtice Reynolds and Margaret Sheriff. Betty is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and John Cowart; grandchildren, Rebecca C. and Justin Evers, their children Kate and Mason; Jordan and Katie Cowart, their sons Camden and Cooper, all of Tallahassee, Florida. She is also survived by her son’s daughters Tiffany H. and Andy Knight, their sons Caleb, Andrew and Noah of Edmond, Oklahoma; and Kayla H. and Wes Schwartz and their children Betty and Otto of Brookline, Massachusetts. She is survived by her brother, Hanley Bass (Elizabeth) of Wetumpka, Alabama along with numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express a sincere thank you for the excellent compassionate personal care provided by Ms. Jesse Jenkins and her staff the past few weeks. Also, a special thank you to Dr. Ileana Popa, Dr. Gilbert Chandler and Dr. Pooja Patel and their staff for the outstanding medical care provided to Betty the past several years. A special thank you to all the staff at Allegro Senior Living where she was a resident for the past four years. A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 17, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. CST at Alabama Heritage Cemetery, in Montgomery, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Betty may be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308 or Christian Family Services, 2720 SW 2nd Ave., Gainesville, FL 32607.
