Billy Roger McClain

Billy Roger McClain, 87, passed away peacefully on April 18 in Tallahassee, Florida, surrounded by family. He was born on August 8, 1936, in Baxter, Florida, to Elmer Lee and Roxy Johns McClain and grew up in Jacksonville, Florida. He is survived by Rachel McClain, his loving wife of 68 years; his children, Keith McClain and Denna Patrice Tala (Nader); his grandchildren, Kavon Tala (Jenna), Sherean Pratt (Kenneth), Daniel McClain, Harmony McClain and Brandon Tala; and great- grandchildren Samuel, Safiyeh, Caroline, Camellia, and Monday Love; and brother Mark McClain (Betty). He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Roxy McClain, and brothers Eugene, Lee, and Arnold McClain. He was celebrated for his vibrant personality and compassionate nature, effortlessly forging lasting connections and friendships wherever he went. Serving proudly in the Army from 1959 to 1961, he devoted himself to his country's service. Following his military tenure, he dedicated 37 years of diligent work to the phone company. A true outdoorsman at heart, he found solace in the pursuits of hunting and fishing, cherishing moments amidst nature's embrace. In addition to his love for the outdoors, he shared a passion for travel with his beloved wife, Rachel. As members of the Big Bend Airstream Club, they embarked on adventures to various destinations, with Helen, Georgia, holding a special place in their hearts. Above all, his greatest joy was spending time with his cherished family, whose presence enriched his life immeasurably. He attended church at Heritage Assembly of God and enjoyed worshiping with them each Sunday. The family will receive visitors on April 25 at 10:00 am at Bevis Funeral Home and Crematory, 200 John Knox Rd, Tallahassee, FL 32303. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 am, immediately following the viewing. Once the service concludes, he will be taken to the Tallahassee National Cemetery for burial. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Big Bend Hospice or the charity of your choice in Mr. Billy's name.
