Carl Tyrone (Butch) Ganey

Carl Tyrone (Butch) Ganey, 71, passed away at his home in Havana, Florida after a long battle with cancer on Sunday October 23, 2011. He was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin Carl Ganey and his mother, Alice Pearl Jones Ganey. His siblings are Richard Allen Ganey and wife Joan (Joy) Stoutamire Ganey of Dunlap, Tennessee; Kenneth Ganey of Crawfordville, Florida; Michael B. Ganey of Harkers Island, NC. He had two sisters Sharon Ganey Posey of Tallahassee, Florida and Melanie Ganey Stieglitz and husband David Stieglitz of Jacksonville, Fl. Mr. Ganey was born and raised in Tallahassee, Florida but moved to Havana in 1971. He attended Leon High School in Tallahassee, Florida where he met his wife and love of fifty two years, Charlotte Isabelle Wheatley Ganey. He also attended Lively Technical School in Tallahassee and developed a lifelong interest in cars and mechanics. Early in life he worked in mechanics and car repairs at Chevrolet dealerships in Tallahassee and Havana. He dearly loved classic cars and the competition of drag racing and other car events. He was an avid fan of NASCAR, Gator Nationals and Florida State University Football. Mr. Ganey spent most of his life loving and providing for his family in the retail, wholesale milk industry for local milk companies. He retired as a Retail Route Supervisor and continued his interest in cars and mechanics. His favorite hangout was at Tallahassee Transmissions where he tinkered with cars and special friends. Survivors include his wife Charlotte Isabelle Wheatley Ganey who is grateful for his love and devotion as well as two daughters, Dawn Delight Ganey of Tallahassee, Florida; Lona Lisa Ganey Weems and husband Steve Weems of Havana, Florida; and a son, Darin Edward Ganey of Havana, Florida. He was also blessed with four grandchildren Justin David Burch, Matthew Allen Burch, Shawn Ryan Boyd, Samantha Alice Beard, and three great grandchildren that he adored. He was a wonderful and loving father, grandfather and great grandfather to a family that regarded him as their best friend that gave everything he had to his family. We give special thanks to his brother, Michael B. Ganey for his expert assistance and guidance in making the final funeral arrangements a smooth a comforting time for his family. A memorial service will be held at Bevis Funeral Home on North Monroe Street in Tallahassee (850/385-2193 or www.bevisfh.com), Florida on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. with visitation at 1:00 p.m. All family and friends are welcomed to help the family celebrate his life.
