Carole Franklin Monk

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Carole Franklin Monk of Tallahassee, Florida on September 29, 2022 at the age of 81. She was a caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Carole was born to Bessie and Paul Franklin, on June 2, 1941, in Thomasville, Georgia. After graduating high school she spent much of her early adult life dedicated to raising three sons. She met her husband Ernie later in life and they were married in 2008. Together they traveled the world, enjoyed special dinners, and spent time with their wine club friends. Carole was passionate about her family. She was famous for cooking her family’s favorite recipes, including her pecan pie, breakfast quiche, and roast beef with rice. After her youngest grandson was born, she came to Dallas and scoured the entire metroplex to find oysters to make her son’s coveted oyster stew. Her grandchildren will always remember Carole bringing caramel cake to all the “important” family gatherings. Carole called her family daily to hear their voices and keep up with the family day-to-day developments. We have many fond memories of going to church, playing Uno, shopping, watching movies, and spending time with Carole. She was a skilled pianist, bridge player and devout church parishioner. Carole loved Jesus! Carole lived the last few years of her life at the Villas of Killearn Lakes in Tallahassee. Our family would like to thank the staff at the Villas for their patience, care and kindness towards Carole. Carole will be greatly missed by her family, her friends and the ladies at Villa 5. Carole is survived by her husband Ernie Monk (his children Walton and Shawn). Her son Wes Long, his wife Josie and his sons Jordan, Brandon, Connor, Jackson and Gavin. Her son Kevin, his wife Elke and his children Kara, Krista, Francisca and Dante. She was preceded in death by her parents Bessie and Paul Franklin, her brothers Allen and Jimmy Franklin and his wife Patty, and her son Allen Long and his wife Carrie Long. The family will receive friends from 10 AM to 11 AM on Saturday October 8, 2022 at Bevis Funeral Home in Tallahassee. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM on October 8, 2022 with Vicar Jonathan Hall officiating. A burial will be at approximately 1 PM at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Thomasville, Georgia with Carole’s family as pallbearers. The Foundation is committed to alleviating the suffering caused by mental illness by awarding grants that lead to advances and breakthroughs in scientific research.
