Carolyn Elizabeth Johnson Abney

Carolyn Elizabeth Johnson Abney (85) of Tallahassee passed away on March 22, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones. Carolyn was born on August 27, 1938 to parents George and Lizzie Johnson in Quincy, Florida. After graduating from Gadsden High in 1956, Carolyn married Charles Abney and had three children. Since her children were so close in age, she volunteered as an elementary homeroom Mom and school nurse and later in life eventually started her career as a cashier. Carolyn was passionate about her children and grandchildren and when she wasn’t playing or filling her home with warmth, love and kindness, she was busy with her yard work, taking care of her Mom and Dad or watching her Gators play. She spent most of her life being a caretaker to numerous families. You could often find her reading her Bible and listening to her CDs from her favorite ministries. She was a member of Northwoods Church and loved the Lord with her whole being. There were many times when her children would come over for a visit to find themselves discussing scriptures and getting more than they bargained for. Carolyn was predeceased by her parents, George and Lizzie; her husband Charles; her first son Allen; her brother Harold and her son in-law Larry Kelly. She is survived by her children Sterling Abney (Carey), Lisa Kelly Abney and Tammy Agee (Larry); her grandchildren Catherine Strutz, Christina Abney, Ashley Agee, and Zachary Abney; great-grandchildren Bryant McClendon, Brianna McClendon, Brady Strutz, Brynn Strutz, Sierra Gery, Evan Gery, Lila Gery and Luka Abney. Last but not least, she leaves behind her two special sisters Verna Longendyke and Maysel Weeks. She is now absent from the body and present with our Lord. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Big Bend Hospice or Northwoods Church of Tallahassee. The family will be receiving guests for a visitation at Bevis Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 from 11:00am – 12:00pm to be immediately followed by the service at 12:00pm. She will be privately interred with her late husband, Charles Abney, at Hillcrest Cemetery of Quincy, Florida.
