Cecil Legette Marsh

Cecil Legette (Papa) Marsh, age 84, entered into rest October 14, 2014 at peace and surrounded by his loving family. Papa, born the third of seven children born to Italy and Nella Marsh in Pleasant Hill, South Carolina, March 17, 1930. Excelling in sports, academics and a stickler for details prepared him for life’s next chapter, The United States Air Force, recognizing his diligence and the innate ability to "make things happen" superior officers in Papa had found a new home and a career. Meeting and soon marrying the love of his life, both began life together creating a familial legacy that does and will continue to extend for future generations. Cecil continually and proudly served his country for 21 years retiring at the rank of Chief Master Sgt. from the United States Air Force (1948-1969). Believing in his country as well as the the satisfaction he got from public service began a second career with the Leon County Sheriff’s Department in 1976, where he served as a Jail Bailiff until 1992. He was a devout Christian and member of Aenon Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon since 1983. Cecil was preceded in death by his father, Italy Calhoun, mother, Nella Cribb; brothers ,Dalton and Clinton; a son, Cliff Legette and daughter-in-law, Lisa. Survivors include his wife Vonnie of 60 years; three children, Steve, Bruce, Susan and husband Danny Johnson all of Tallahassee. Five grand-children with spouses, Julie and Kouji Bowser, Amanda and Dylan Mahoney, Eli and Megan Sweeney, Ashley and Terry Davis, Melisa and David McFee. Eight great-grands ... Baylee Smith, Ariel Mahoney, Drake Davis, Kayla, Dylan, Jonah McFee as well as, Evan and Morgan Bowser. Cecil is also survived by three sisters, Carrie Hatcher of Savannah GA, Cheryl Jean Yates of Pleasant Hill, SC and Peggy Ann Tisdale of Kingstree, SC; as well as a brother, Auburn Marsh of Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends Monday, Oct. 20, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Aenon Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at the church at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Big Bend Hospice. Susie Mozolic of Bevis Funeral Home is assisting the family with their arrangements.
