Cecil Leon Oswalt

Cecil L. Oswalt, 89, of Tallahassee, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at his home. He is survived by his wife of forty years, Kay Oswalt. Mr. Oswalt was born August 20, 1928 in Marked Tree, Arkansas to Jesse and Gaynell Anderson Oswalt. He was a graduate of Delta State University, with a Bachelors De- gree in education and received his Master’s Degree at Ole Miss. He taught school in Pace, Arkansas, spent two years with the American Red Cross, before a 19-year career with Lederle Labs as a pharmaceutical representative. Mr. Oswalt was also a veteran of the United States Air Force. The Oswalt family moved to Tallahassee in 1958 and he became active in the community as an avid fan and supporter of the Florida State basketball, baseball and football programs. Mr. Oswalt was also a Master Mason at Jackson Lodge #1, F&AM, member of the Scottish Rite bodies, and was a member of Marzuq Shrine Temple, where he served as Potentate in 2009, and as treasurer for 17 years. He was also a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Tallahassee. Other survivors include his son Lee Oswalt (Holly) and a daughter Su- san Holden (Dan Bieg); step-children Don Sheffield (Bobbi), and Donna Cook (Finley); granddaughters Jordan and Julia Roddenberry and Rachel Sheffield; as well as his sister Helen Aven. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Jesse and Gay; granddaughter Abbie Roddenberry; and his first wife Ruth. The family would like to add special thanks to Big Bend Hospice, spe- cifically Tiffany, Stephanie and Amanda; as well as Desiree and Kiki with Right at Home. The family will receive friends, Monday, May 21st from 10:00 AM until service time at 11:00 AM at Bevis Funeral Home, 200 John Knox Road, with Masonic Rites held at the funeral home following the funeral service. Interment with military honors will be held at Tallahassee National Cem- etery following the ceremonies at the funeral home. Gifts in memory of Mr. Oswalt may be sent to Marzuq Shrine Center, 1805 N.
