Charles "Chuck" Edward Markley Sr.

Charles (Chuck) Edward Markley, Sr. passed away on February 17, 2023. Chuck loved his family, friends and life. Born in Globe, AZ, January 6, 1938 to Margaret Brewton Markley and Conrad Markley. Chuck and brother, Joe, grew up in Monticello, FL. Chuck’s mother had divorced and married J.W. Timmons (Tim) who was Chuck and Joe’s stepfather, teaching them to hunt, fish and farm. Monticello was home with many lifelong friends. After graduation from Jefferson County High School in 1956 the group of guys joined the Air Force. Chuck was stationed in Morocco, Myrtle Beach and Dauphin Island, AL. where he met his wife, Patricia Locatto. Married for 38 years and had 3 children, was Mark, Lisa, and Brian. Working at Sherwin-Williams, Chuck learned the paint business and received “National Salesman of the Year” when he sold all the paint for the new Northwood Mall. Chuck started his own company along with partner Jerry Watson, C & J Decorating. The business grew and prospered. They would have their famous mullet fish frys, inviting customers and friends to enjoy. Chuck was introduced to St. George Island and immediately bought a lot on the bay and started construction of the family beach home. Chuck loved the gorgeous sunsets and fishing. There was always something going on at Markley SGI. Chuck’s beloved, Pat, passed away May 1999. Later that year, Chuck’s best friend, Lee Harrison, introduced him to Julie. After a few years, Chuck and Julie married under an oak tree on Chuck’s W.W. Kelly Farm. Chuck and Julie enjoyed life together travelling in the RV and taking cruises. Chuck was an awesome Stepdad to Julie’s children, Brooke and Bob. Chuck impacted so many lives whether it be family, friends, employees, and clients. He was always generous to everyone with his time and talent. Chuck loved being a GrandDad spending time with all of them teaching many life experiences, hunting, fishing and shopping. Chuck was a member of Faith Presbyterian as well as the Elks Club. He had his pilots license and loved to fly small planes. Chuck enjoyed his many hunting trips with Lee Harrison and other buddies. He especially loved the Colorado Rockies and Pagosa Springs. He travelled to Canada and Argentina as well. Chuck is survived by his wife, Julie, children Mark (Angie), Lisa (Andy), and Brian (Cindy). Grandchildren Lindsay, Nicholas, Winston, Alex (Ben), Lilly and Bethany (Cole). Stepchildren Brooke (Javier), Bob (Haley). Brother Joe, nephews Jody and Chip, sister in law Margie, niece Gina, sister in laws- Lisa, Barbara (Fred), Gretchen (Keith), and Carol (Allan). Chuck is predeceased by mother, Margaret, father, Conrad, and wife Pat. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Alzheimer's Project 301 E. Tharpe Street, Tallahassee FL. 32303 and Big Bend Hospice 1723 Mahan Center Blvd. Tallahassee, FL. 32308.
