Charles Alton Golden

Rev. Charles “Alton” Golden finished his race August 29, 2024, at the age of 89 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, Florida. Alton is survived by wife Audrey Corley Golden, daughter Ann MacLeod, grandsons Michael MacLeod and (spouse Chelsea) and Stephen MacLeod. Daughter Beth Carter (spouse Tim Carter) of Crawfordville, Florida, granddaughter Audra (spouse Charles) Place, great-grandchildren Lia Place and Timothy Place of Crawfordville, Florida; grandson John Carter of Crawfordville, Florida. Daughter Cindy Jines (spouse Tim Jines) of Hurst, Texas, granddaughter Amy Jines of Saudi Arabia; Stephanie Jines; great-grandchildren Caleb Kelley and David Kelly of Hurst, Texas. Daughter Trish Sewell (spouse Thomas) of Guymon, Oklahoma; grandson Thomas (spouse Alyssa) great-grandchildren Harley Sewell and M'Leah Sewell, Guymon, Oklahoma; grandson, Taylor Sewell (spouse Stephanie), great-grandchildren Trae Sewell and Ty Sewell, Ponder, Texas; granddaughter, Jennifer Sewell, great-granddaughter Phoenix Sewell Guymon, Oklahoma.; siblings, Homer (spouse Annette) Golden of Tallahassee, Florida and Marie Boyett of Tallahassee, Florida. As well as nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Inez and Robert Golden of Tallahassee, Florida and son-in-law Timothy Carter of Crawfordville, Florida. On January 27, 1935, the world was blessed to welcome the birth of Alton to Inez and Robert Golden in Tallahassee, Florida. He grew up in Tallahassee and graduated from Leon High in 1953. In his yearbook he said, “To live long it is necessary to live slowly.” In June of 1955, he wed his sweetheart Audrey Corley. Later they welcomed four beautiful girls, Ann, Beth, Cindy and Trish into their lives. He was the owner operator of Alton Golden Construction, building and repairing countless homes from Tallahassee to St. George Island. He also assisted in remodeling churches in Freeport, Florida and Louisiana, as well as helped build a Church in a Day in Whiteland, Indiana. Though he was skilled at building earthly homes, his passion was preparing people for their heavenly home. He was an ordained minister with the United Pentecostal Church International and a faithful member ministering at the Pentecostals of the Capital City (Formerly Apostolic Church of Tallahassee). He was known for his love of the Word of God and teaching home Bible studies. Not only did he go to families' homes or invite them into his, but he also spent 12 years teaching inmates at Wakulla Correctional Institute. It is recorded that Alton baptized over 130 inmates in the wonderful name of Jesus and prayed 55 through to the Holy Ghost. He also had a desire to teach and mentor the next generation. Several young ministers have benefited from his guidance and Godly wisdom. Next to his passion for God and souls, was his love for his family. You rarely saw him without his wife, Audrey. They truly did life together. You could not talk to him long before he would be telling you about one of his daughters, son-in-laws, grandchildren or great-grandchildren. They were the light of his life. His love extended beyond just blood family as many claim him and Mrs. Audrey as “Grandpa and Grandma Golden.” Our sorrow is heaven's rejoicing. We may be weeping now, but a morning comes when we will rejoice with him again. Truly he could say, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:” - 2 Timothy‬ ‭4‬:‭7‬‬‬ The funeral is scheduled for 3:00 PM Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Soul’s Port Pentecostal Church. Visitation will be at Bevis Funeral Home from 5:00- 7:00 PM September 3, 2024. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Alton Golden’s life.
