Charles Benjamin Metcalf Jr.

Charles Benjamin Metcalf, Jr, of Tallahassee went to meet his Heavenly Father on April 9, 2018. Charles was born in Panacea, FL to the late Benjamin and Minnie Metcalf. He was one of three siblings; Carl Metcalf (deceased) (wife Nettie) and Clark Metcalf (wife Charlotte) all of Panacea. Meeting him in Glory is his wife of 61 years, Martha. They met and married in Panacea on September 11, 1956. They moved to Tallahassee where Charles began his career working for Star Tile Company and then Harvey Tile Company. Charles went into business for himself as Charles Metcalf Tile Company where he had many successful years. He and the team were known throughout the construction community for quality. Often times, contractors would wait weeks in order for Charles to do the work because they knew the quality of work and the quality behind the work. Charles and Martha were blessed with two children: Kay Whipple (Tim) and Ken Metcalf; four grandsons: Benjamin (wife Krysta), Adam (wife Hayley), Jacob and Caleb. They are further blessed with four grandchildren: Drake, Katelyn, Mason and Ansley; a host of nieces and nephews, and church family members. Charles was very active in church for many years. His favorite memory was working in the bus ministry where he and Martha would visit families on Saturday and schedule pick-up for Sunday school and church the following day. He especially enjoyed the church cookouts where he would fry fish (his favorite being mullet) and all the fixings. The family would like to recognize his loving caretakers; Donna Styron, Ruby Huntley and Yvonne Parker. He never failed to tell Donna, Ms. Ruby how much he loved them and thanked then for taking such good care of him. A special shout out to Frank Wolf (we nicknamed him Sgt. Frank) who has been Pop’s home health nurse, three days a week, for almost a year. We appreciate having such a wonderful nurse who is very knowledgeable, straight forward, and showed much compassion in the care of Pop. We would also like to thank his entire medical team who never gave up and provided him not only great medical care, but support and encouragement. Charles will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather (affectionately known as Pop) who taught us the value of hard work. Pop loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting more than anyone can imagine. His greatest joy was being with his grandchildren and teaching then the love and respect of the great outdoors. Pop also liked a good joke and would often times sit back and laugh at something silly he made us do! Pop enjoyed being with and around people. He looked forward to the many visits from friends, family and church family to relive his many precious memories. Until we meet again!
