Cora Ann Chapman

Cora Ann Chapman, 86, passed away February 17, 2023, at her residence in Tallahassee. She was born March 12, 1936, in Punta Gorda to Joseph Tilden and Mary Ellen Glover Manning. Cora Ann attended Averitt Jr. College in Danville, VA and then Florida State University with a degree in Elementary Education. While at Florida State, Cora Ann was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority and in 1957, a member of the FSU “Flying High Circus,” performing on the Spanish Web (If anyone would like to see what Cora Ann performed on the Spanish Web, google: Dorothy Lamour/Lovely Luwana Lady/from the Greatest Show on Earth.). Following graduation, she taught third, fourth and fifth grades at Sabal Palm and Hartsfield Elementary Schools for several years. She was very active in her community and was a member of Tallahassee Heights United Methodist Church. For the last two years Cora Ann has been attending Morningside Baptist Church and has made many wonderful friends there. She also was a member of NEBA where she was secretary for nine years; Capital City Republican Club; Capital Conservatives; Tallahassee Woman’s Club, Marzuq Shrine Ladies and Hillbillies; and Springtime Tallahassee, portraying Rachel Jackson in 2005 and member of War and Reconstruction in 1999. Cora Ann was a former member of The Town Club, Capital Tiger Bay and Tallahassee Quarterback Club. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, John W. (Jack) Chapman; children, Cathy (Dan) Bruijn, Keith (Sonya) Chapman, Kevin Chapman and Monte (Sandra) Chapman; brother, Larry Manning and grandchildren, Carter (Megan) Chapman, Cody (Ashley) Chapman, Shelby Chapman, twins, Josh Bruijn and Jennifer (Jakob) Wisdom, Mary Beth (Taylor) Murphy, Carson Chapman, Katie Chapman and Avery Chapman; and great-grandchildren, Grayson and Colton Wisdom and Peyton and Parker Chapman. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Joe Manning. The family will receive friends from 10:00AM until 11:00AM on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at Bevis Funeral Home with the funeral following at 11:00AM. Interment will be at 1:00PM at Tallahassee National Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Cora Ann's name may be made to the American Cancer Society (https://www.cancer.org/about-us/local.html ).
