Daniel Thomas McWilliams, 65, passed from this life on June 11, 2026, in Tallahassee, Florida, where he had called home for the last 22 years. Known to those who loved him simply as Dan, he lived a life measured not only in the numbers he so skillfully mastered, but in the laughter he drew from a room, the loyalty he gave to his teams, and the boundless devotion he held for his family. Dan was born on October 7, 1960, in Smithtown, New York, to Edward and Barbara O'Brien McWilliams, who gave him a foundation of faith, family, and good humor that would define him all his days. A proud graduate of Smithtown West, he set his sights south and never looked back, earning his master’s degree in accounting from Florida State University, a school that ignited a lifelong passion for the Seminoles and for the richness of collegiate athletics. For twenty accomplished years, Dan built a distinguished career as a Certified Public Accountant, a profession that suited him perfectly: precise, principled, and quietly indispensable. He retired in 2025, closing the books on a career as well-balanced as the ledgers he kept. Away from the office, Dan was most at ease in the stands. Whether cheering on his beloved Florida State Seminoles, his New York Mets, or any college contest worth watching, he was a steadfast and enthusiastic fan who found deep joy in the rhythm of the game. He was a retired marching member of the St. James Saints Drum and Bugle Corps and a lifelong fan of the marching arts and Drum Corps International as well as Drum Corps Associates. He was also a proud member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in Tallahassee, where he volunteered his time in the office, giving back with the same dedication he brought to everything he undertook. Those fortunate enough to know Dan will remember his quick wit, his sharp mind, and his genuine warmth. They will remember the light that came into his eyes at the mention of his daughter. His love for Harper was his greatest treasure, surpassing even his affection for a well-balanced set of books. Dan is survived by his beloved daughter, Harper McWilliams and her Mother, Courtney Benedix; his brothers Brian McWilliams, Kevin McWilliams, Michael McWilliams, and Dennis McWilliams; his sisters Margaret LaForce, Kathleen Miranda, and Mary White; a cherished community of nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and loyal friends whom he loved with a full and generous heart. A Celebration of Life will be held on July 11, 2026, in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
