It is with profound sadness, we announce the passing of Darrell Jerome Worley on June 25, 2026, in Tallahassee, Florida. While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in celebrating a life that was lived with purpose, laughter, generosity, quick wit, unforgettable sense of humor and an unwavering love for his friends and family. Jerome was born on May 16, 1967, in Crestview, Florida, to Darroll and Cleo Worley. As the youngest of four children, he brought energy, creativity, and a spirited personality to those around him from an early age. He was naturally gifted as an artist, drawing and painting, and he excelled in both football and baseball throughout his school years. He also discovered a lifelong passion for music, especially playing the guitar. Raised along Florida’s beautiful Emerald Coast, Jerome developed a love for the outdoors that stayed with him throughout his life. Whether casting a line into the water or simply enjoying nature, fishing became more than a hobby—it became one of his greatest joys. Jerome dedicated his professional life to serving others through law enforcement. Beginning his career with the Crestview Police Department, he earned the respect of those who worked alongside him through his integrity, leadership, and commitment to public service. His career ultimately led him to the position of Director of the Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, where he proudly served the people of Florida while building countless friendships that lasted a lifetime. Away from work, Jerome embraced life wholeheartedly. He loved all kinds of fishing, treasured every opportunity to pick up his guitar, and could often be found listening to his favorite ’80s rock bands, especially Van Halen. He was a passionate sports fan, proudly cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide every season, and found immense fulfillment coaching youth baseball in Tallahassee. The lessons he taught on the field extended far beyond the game, leaving a lasting impression on the many young lives he influenced. Of all the roles Jerome held throughout his life, the ones he cherished most were those of father and grandfather. Nothing brought him greater happiness than being surrounded by his children and grandchildren. His greatest accomplishments were not found in titles or achievements, but in the love he gave so freely, the wisdom he shared, and the memories he created with those he loved most. Jerome was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Darroll Worley and Cleo Worley. Left behind to cherish his memory are his children: Brittany Brown (Jason), Hunter Worley, Taylor Worley, and Chase Worley; his treasured grandchildren, Tyson and Heidi; his sisters, Mona Register, Nova Shaffer (Jim), and Cynthia Barrow (Buddy) along with his niece and nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and colleagues whose lives were forever enriched by knowing him. Jerome will be remembered for his servant’s heart, quiet strength, infectious sense of humor, artistic spirit, and unwavering devotion to the people he loved. His legacy lives on through the family he adored, the friendships he nurtured, the community he faithfully served, and the countless lives he touched with his kindness and generosity. Though our hearts will forever carry the weight of his absence, we are grateful for every memory, every laugh, every fishing trip, every song, and every moment we were blessed to share with him. His love will remain with us always, and his memory will continue to guide us in the years ahead. The family will be receiving guests for a visitation at Bevis Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 1:00pm with a memorial service to follow at 2:00pm. The family cordially invites you to join them for a reception following the service from 4:00 – 6:00pm at Vice Society, 815 W Madison St Apt 120, Tallahassee, FL 32304. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to Take a Kid Fishing, Inc., in Jerome’s honor.
