Dorothy Jeanette Rouse

Dorothy Jeanette (Nette) Rouse left to be with our Lord, January 31, 2021, with family by her side, in Crawfordville, FL. She was born November 6, 1934, in Ludowici, GA where she later attended school. She is preceded in death by her parents Nathan & Jewel (Smith) Slater. Dorothy was of Baptist faith, a seamstress in her younger days, then later following her husband in the construction field. Many have said she could roof a house as well as any man, but with tender hands she held and hugged her loved ones. She spent her later days in dedication to her husband Edward Rouse, working along beside him creating arts & crafts which were displayed at local and regional Arts n Craft Festivals. Her love for her husband was equally expressed for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who knew her as “Memaw”. “Nette”, as known by the sisters, was the oldest of five girls - whom till this day have a cherished bond; they will miss her dearly. Her interests included family gatherings, singing, painting, cooking, and reading. Mrs. Rouse is survived by her husband Edward, of 45 years, living in Woodville FL. She is also survived by her children Debra Cape and Jimmy Duvall Jr of S.C., and Sheila (Top) Erwin of FL, grandchildren Angela (Danny )Vega, Jason (Jessica) Weatherly, J.R. (Kellie) Blue, Sara (Daniel) Shadrick, Audrey (Michael) Erwin, Bradley Erwin, all of FL. Grandchildren MaryAnne Cape, Frankie (Merritt) McNair, Heather (Justin) Pritchet, Ashley (Brian) Chastain, Bobby-Anne Duvall, Sean Duvall, eleven (11) great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her loving sisters Faye (Sonny) Hodges, Sue Slater Stafford and Bobbie (W.H.) Teague all of GA. as well as a special brother Madison “Bubba” (Bonnie) Smith of FL. Mrs. Rouse was also preceded in death by three sons, Willie Duvall, Bobby Duvall and Mack Rouse, sister & brother in-law, Claudia “Bea” (Frances “Fritz” ) Nitz. A memorial service is planned for February 6, 2021, Saturday at 11:00am at Lake Ellen Baptist Church in Crawfordville, FL, service officiated by Sr. Pastor Keith Wallace Should one wish, in lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations sent to Big Bend Hospice, Tallahassee, FL in memory of Dorothy Rouse (bigbendhospice.org, 850-878-5310) David Conn and Kimberly Crum with Bevis Funeral Home of Crawfordville are assisting the family with arrangements.
