Earl M Cotton Jr

Earl M. Cotton, Jr., 90, passed away July 7, 2014 at his home in Tallahassee, Florida after a short illness. He was born on July 3, 1925 in Cottondale, Florida. He spent his youth in Cottondale then married the love of his life and moved to Tallahassee in 1951 to begin a lifelong career as a Builder having assisted in developing a major part of the Northeast portion of Tallahassee including Waverly and Betton Hills. He built many beautiful homes all across the area including many on Live Oak Plantation Road. He was a perfectionist and known for his quality workmanship. Earl served in the United States Army. He was a Baptist and a longtime member of Thomasville Road Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge for over 50 years having served as Local Master and District Deputy Grand Master, Secretary and Treasurer. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Cotton, Sr., a brother, Cecil Cotton; a sister, Margie Ellen Gainey; and a grandson, Brandon Lee Cotton . He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Jean Christmas Cotton; 3 sons, L. Michael Cotton, M. Terry Cotton, and Christopher E. Cotton; one daughter, Yolanda Cotton Ritter; two grandchildren, Richard A. Ritter and Matthew E. Ritter; two great-grandchildren, Preston Heath Ritter and Natalie Grace Ritter, all of Tallahassee; two sisters, Marie Hightower and Gwen Haney; one brother, Henry Cotton. He was a great man, a devoted husband and father. He loved God, his family and his friends. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 2:00pm at Thomasville Road Baptist Church, 3131 Thomasville Road, Tallahassee, Florida. A visitation will be held from 1:00- 2:00pm at the church prior to the service. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery, 838 N. Bronough St., Tallahassee, Fl.
