Edward B. Williams

Ed went to his eternal rest on December 17, 2023. He had a sudden cardiac problem, while out and about the day before. He died peacefully, surrounded by family. Over the years he endured multiple medical problems, always remaining positive. He loved his family, especially his mother, and accompanied her on several cross-country adventures. He enjoyed the outdoors and nature, occasionally disappearing to stay in state parks or national forests. He was a Boy Scout/Order of the Arrow member and camp counselor for many of his formative years. While a counselor, he learned to love archery, which remained a passion for five decades. While on the job, he once performed CPR on a motel guest with good success. This was later recognized by naming Ed the national employee of the month for the company. Ed’s unique personality made him a joy to be around, as you knew there were unexpected thoughts and musings, often observing events of everyday life, that went unnoticed by all but him. He was born in Bainbridge, Georgia to Elvin B. Williams (E.B.) and Anne Williams (Wall) on the 14th of January, 1957. He was the second child of the family. Ed was raised in Tallahassee and Bradenton, Florida. He attended secondary schools in Raleigh, NC and Perry, Florida. He left high school early, in order to start collegiate studies. Ed was a proud electrical engineering graduate of the University of Florida. He held several jobs in the field, over several years. Surviving family includes a brother, Scott M. Williams, MD (JoAnn) of Wimberley, Texas and sister, Cathy Williams of Pensacola, Florida. Nephews include Michael (Teresa) of Trophy Club, Texas; Andrew (Fran) of Riverview, Florida and Matthew of St. Petersburg, Florida. Allison Williams is his only niece, living in Coppell, Texas. W. Henry Wall, DDS, is his uncle (Atlanta, Georgia.) He is preceded in death by father, E.B. Williams, EdD and mother, Anne W Williams, EdS. He also is survived by numerous great nephews and cousins. To know Ed was to love him. He was a quiet man with a big heart and a compassionate soul. He was the peacemaker in our family. He was greatly loved and will be sorely missed. Funeral plans are for Bevis Funeral Home of Tallahassee at 10:00 AM on January 3, 2024. The family will welcome visitors at 9:00 AM. Refreshments will be served after the service. A private burial will follow in the Blakely Cemetery, Early County, Georgia. In lieu of Flowers, the family requests donations be made to the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI).
