Elkin Burton (EB) Barnett

Long time Florida resident Elkin B. Barnett ( EB), passed away peacefully in Tallahassee, Florida, on May 13, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Elkin was 90 years old. He was widely admired for his positive attitude, quick wit, and gentle manner. Elkin was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 29, 1926, to Thelma and Rupert Barnett. The family moved to Miami, Florida, where he graduated from Edison High School in 1943. He joined the Navy in 1944, and served his country honorably in the Pacific Theater. After the war, Elkin attended the University of Miami. It was there he met Donna Robinson, of Coral Gables, Florida. The couple were married in 1948, and settled in Coral Gables, where they raised their three children. Elkin was an outstanding salesman for S.C. Johnson and Son, Co. He worked for Johnson's Wax for 35 years, and won top salesman awards many times. Elkin was a gifted athlete, dancer, and singer. He enjoyed tennis, golf, and boating. Elkin and Donna were active members of the Coral Gables Country Club, and St. James Lutheran Church. Following his retirement, Elkin and Donna moved from Osprey, To Ft. Myers, Florida. The couple enjoyed many adventures traveling the world, with their friends and family. Elkin loved his family, and spent many happy days with his children and grandchildren. Always with a smile on his face, Elkin enjoyed life to the fullest. He will be missed greatly. Elkin is survived by his wife Donna, of 68 years, his children, Burt Barnett of Deerfield Beach, Florida, Harriet Barnett Minor ( Roger ) of Houston, Texas, and Thelma Barnett ( Roman ) of Tallahassee, Florida, grandchildren Taylor C. Minor, and Melissa Minor Purgason ( George), and two great grandchildren. A celebration of Elkin's life is planned for Saturday June 3, 2017, beginning at 1:30 pm, in the Chapel at Allegro Senior Living, 4501 W. Shannon Lakes Dr., Tallahassee, Florida.
