Emily Louise Register Harrison

Mrs. Emily Louise Register Harrison, age 87, of Tallahassee, passed away on the evening of Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at her residence. Emily was born February 25, 1938, in Tallahassee, to the late William "Alonzo" and Eliza Marshall Register. Emily is survived by her husband of 52 years, Millard Harrison, her daughter Julie (Mike Hannon) of Crawfordville, her son Mike Kreager (Ann Tansey) of Atlanta, and her daughter Amy (Scott Gaylord) of Crawfordville; grandchildren Emily Hannon Walker, Addie Kreager Cunningham, and Michael Kreager; and three great grandchildren Ridley Walker, Liam Cunningham, and Tansey Cunningham. Emily grew up in Tallahassee, attended Sealy Elementary, graduated from Leon High School in 1955 and earned her degree in Social Welfare from Florida State University. While at FSU, Emily was a proud member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. In her formative years, Emily developed a deep love of music, playing piano, performing in various high school choirs and singing with her family at home. She passed along this passion for music to her children by having everyone gather around and sing while she accompanied them on the piano. Music was always playing in the house on her stereo or 8-track, but The Ray Coniff Singers and Johnny Mathis were a couple of her favorites. Julie, Mike and Amy still know all the words to her favorite songs. Emily married and moved to Atlanta in 1960 where Julie, Mike and Amy were all born. In 1969, in a flash of clarity, Emily packed her children up and moved back to Tallahassee for good where she met and married the love of her life, Millard Harrison. Emily had many passions in her life, her music, her schnauzers, the never-ending work in her backyard garden, cooking and the regular trips to her home at St. Teresa Beach. When Julie and Amy were young, Emily was active as their Girl Scouts and Brownies Troop Leader. She was also a proud member of the Colonial Dames. Emily took the time to work with one of her many schnauzers, Jena, to have her certified as a pet therapy dog, which enabled her to spend many mornings at one of Tallahassee's physical rehabilitation hospitals comforting patients. This was a cause that Emily was deeply passionate about. Emily's parents began taking Emily and her sisters Grace, Mary Lee and brother Marshall Register to St. Teresa Beach when they were young. Over the years many family gatherings took place at the St Teresa Beach house with cousins scattered around the porch on old WW2 army cots, aunts and uncles staying up late visiting and playing noisy games of Hearts and Spoons. St Teresa was not just a home for Emily, it was a mindset. It continues to be a special place for her entire family that five generations later are still enjoying today! Emily lived a full and colorful life and we are all better for having her as our "Mom" and "Mimi". "I've got a song to sing, tellin' the world about the joy you bring. You gave me a reason for living, You taught me the meaning of giving" - Johnny Mathis The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, from 1:00PM until 2:00PM at Bevis Funeral Home, 200 John Knox Road. A graveside service will immediately follow at St. John’s Episcopal Church Cemetery. The family asks that instead of sending flowers or donations, please simply do an act of kindness for someone in need and pay it forward. We think Emily would really appreciate the gesture. Emily’s family would like to express their gratitude to her caregivers, Robbie and Sheena for the outstanding care they provided and to Big Bend Hospice.
