Eugene Grover Rivers Jr.

Eugene Grover Rivers, Jr. a distinguished Tallahassean, passed away on September 20, 2015. He was born on West College Avenue on March 13, 1926. His pioneer family came to Tallahassee in the early 1920's. He graduated from the Georgia Military Academy and was an Officer (Ensign) during World War in the US Marines. He was graduate of both Auburn University and University of Florida with a major in Agronomy and a minor in Entomology. He was also a past board member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Mr. Rivers formerly owned Rivers Seed Company and Rivers Patio. He retired from the Department of Transportation as an Environmental Administrator. He held memberships in the following: The Tallahassee Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow, The Colonels Club, Past Springtime Tallahassee Andrew Jackson X, past president of The Town Club, Committee of 99, Florida Board of Landscape Architects, and a member of The National Academy of Sciences and Research. He is survived by his wife, Jean McMillan Rivers, daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Judge William Meyer of Denver, Colorado, A son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Rebekah Rivers of Tallahassee, and six grandchildren as follows: Kristen Matthews of Denver, Britt Matthews Robinson of Palm Springs, Dylan Rivers of Tallahassee, Tina Rivers Ryan and Rachel Rivers of New York City, and Logan Rivers of Tallahassee, and two great-grandchildren: Andrew Penn Rivers of Tallahassee and Ryan Ava Robinson of Palm Springs, California. Memorial contributions may be to sent to The Tallahassee Rotary Club Scholarship House or Trinity United Methodist Church, Park Avenue, Tallahassee. A graveside service will be held at Oakland Cemetery (enter off Duval) 4PM on Saturday, September 26th. Family will receive family and friends immediately following at 414 Summerbrooke Drive.
