Faye C. Atkinson

Faye Atkinson, a longtime resident of Tallahassee, passed peacefully from her home into heaven on the 10th of December. Faye Ardelia Creekmore Atkinson was born on September 27, 1921 to Bessie and Robert Creekmore in Live Oak, Florida. She graduated from Florida High and married the love of her life, Vernon Atkinson, in 1939. Together, she and Vernon raised their four daughters in Tallahassee and, when their children were grown, the couple enjoyed visiting with family and traveling the world together. After Vernon’s passing, she continued to travel and was blessed to be a part of many family reunions across the Southeast. As a young woman, Faye enjoyed listening to Glenn Miller music and she loved to dance. For many years, she also enjoyed crocheting, playing cards and singing with the Joy choir at First Baptist Church of Tallahassee. Faye is survived by her four daughters: Sherry Fraser of Lynchburg, VA, Joan Melnick and Anne McAfee, both of Tallahassee, FL and Donna Atkinson of Casselberry, FL. All four daughters were loved dearly by Faye and brought her much joy throughout her lifetime. Faye was predeceased by her mother and father, her brother, Bobby Creekmore, and her husband, Vernon Atkinson. Faye had eight grandchildren: Vernon Atkinson II of Atlanta, Ga, David Melnick of Tallahassee, FL, Denise Lawton of Altavista, VA, Jeff Melnick of Chuluota, FL, Brannan Hartman of Deland, FL, Britt Diaz of Orlando, FL, Robert Melnick of Ocklocknee, GA and Elizabeth Wessman of Orlando, Fl. She also had 11 great-grandchildren: Victoria Orton of Vincenza, Italy, Vernon Atkinson III of Atlanta, GA, Thomas Lawton Jr. and Katherine Lawton of Altavista, VA, Jack Killeen of Orlando, FL, Taylor, Parker, Jonathan and Amanda Melnick of Chuluota, FL and Gabrielle and Gavin Melnick, of Ocklocknee, GA. She also had two great-great-grandchildren Joseph and McKinley Orton of Vincenza, Italy. A viewing will be held Friday, December 15th from 5-7pm at Bevis Funeral Home, 200 John Knox Road. Graveside services and burial to be held at the Roselawn Cemetery on Saturday, December 16th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Big Bend Hospice.
