Frances Ann Newsom Cook

Frances Ann Newsom Cook, age 87, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and precious friend to so very many passed away on January 31, 2018. Ann was born on September 28, 1930 to the late Henry Newsom and Ruby Solomon Newsom in St. Louis, Missouri. In her early years, Ann moved to Sikeston, Missouri. She graduated from Sikeston High School, where she was active in band, chorus, and orchestra. She attended Southeast Missouri State Teachers College, and later met and married John R. deJarnette. Their three daughters, Linda Marcet of Orlando, Laura Morgan of Tallahassee, and Leila Peacock (Joe) of Moultrie, Georgia, survive her. In 1960, Ann married Louis H. Cook, and they moved to Tallahassee. With the marriage, Ann gained three step-children, Thomas, Beverly, and Kim. Her beloved Louis preceded her in death in 2007. Ann worked for 13 years in the Mortgage Department of Leon Federal, was employed for a number of years by Lee Everhart Companies, and then became the Chief Deputy Clerk of the US Bankruptcy Court, where she retired in 1992. Ann was truly a one-in-a-million lady in every sense of the word, and her tireless devotion to her family and friends was legendary. Once anyone met her, Ann's warmth and joy made such an impression on them that she became their friend forever. If you knew her, you had no choice but to love her. She loved to read, fish with Louis, garden, cook, and spend time with family, friends, and her dearly loved pets. She was a dedicated letter writer, phone caller, emailer, texter, or whatever it took to show her concern, interest, and love for her family and friends. Her beautiful voice, incredible hugs, and kind, warm, and beautiful smile will be sorely missed. Ann is also survived by granddaughters Jennifer and Laura Lee Walsh, Sarah Lehecka (Ondrej), and Susan Hammond, grandsons Bryan Cook (Brandi), Walker Morgan (Chris and their daughter, Emma), and Nick Marcet, and godson Jason Lacayo. Ann also dearly loved her great-grandchildren Lincoln Glover and Natalie and Julian Lehecka. Their recent addition to her world filled her last days with such incredible joy. A celebration of Ann’s life will be held on February 16 at 2:00 pm at Trinity United Methodist Church in Tallahassee, 120 W. Park Avenue. Donations may be made to Big Bend Hospice in her memory, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd, Tallahassee, FL 32308; they were incredibly supportive to Ann and her family.
