G.A. "Gus" Tacot, Jr.

G.A. “Gus” Tacot Jr., 93, of Tallahassee, FL passed away peacefully on August 16, 2026, surrounded by his family. Gus was born in Tampa, FL on March 26, 1933 to G.A. Tacot Sr. And Grace Augusta Tacot. Growing up in Tampa Bay, he spent many weekends sailing with his mother and father. He later moved to Tallahassee, FL, where he eventually married the love of his life, Lucy Joyce Tacot. They were married for 70 wonderful years. Gus grew up in a family of equestrians and was trained by his father from an early age. He rode and trained horses, specifically Lipizzans and Thoroughbreds, and became an accomplished jumper. He and Lucy traveled throughout the United States competing and showing their horses, sharing many years of adventures together along the way. Gus had a lifelong love for riding. He continued riding and teaching until late in his life. In 1960, Gus joined the Tallahassee Police Department, where he served for more than three decades and eventually retired as a Captain in the 1990s. During his time with the department, he attended numerous law enforcement schools, including the FBI National Academy and Secret Service School in Washington D.C. Gus was also a licensed pilot and enjoyed recreational flying. After his retirement from the police department, he worked in real estate and remained active in the industry for many years. He was a lifelong Christian, and was a member of Saint Peter’s Anglican Cathedral. Gus is preceded in death by his parents, G.A. Tacot Sr. and Grace Tacot, and his son, Gus Tacot III. He is survived by his wife, Lucy Tacot, and their child, John Charles Tacot (Sharon Tacot). Gus was known as “Papa” to his grandchildren whom he loved and adored: Eva Tacot Simpson (Bud Simpson), J.C. Tacot (Mary Tacot), and Grace Tacot Little (Blaine Little). He was also a proud great-grandfather to John Cormac Tacot, Ronan Tacot, Charles Little, and Jack Little. He cherished the time he spent with his family and the generations that followed. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, with details to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Charles Simeon Institute St. Peter’s Anglican Cathedral.
