Geraldine Anderson Brown

GERALDINE ANDERSON BROWN, 86, affectionately known by friends and family as ‘Jerry’ or ‘Mawmaw’ died on January 21, 2025, in Tallahassee, Florida. Born in Haw River, North Carolina on July 23, 1938, she is survived by her three daughters: Kim Atkinson, Kellie Trednick and Kerrie Brandon (Brad). Four grandchildren; Kristin Jordan (Travis), Megan Neel (Brandon), Nicholas Wiberly and Alyssa Wiberly as well as 3-great-granddaughters; Laya Leigh Jordan, Ricki Grace and Rylee Ann Neel. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Juanita Leach Anderson; granddaughter; Nicole Jordyn Wiberly and Son-in-law; Ricky Atkinson. Growing up in Haw River, Jerry enjoyed playing basketball all four years while in high school, which led to her love of sports especially FSU Football and Duke Basketball! After moving to Tallahassee in 1972, she enjoyed tracing her family’s genealogy, flower arranging and gardening. She loved nothing better than caring for and spending time with her family. Including her daughter’s neighborhood friends who always enjoyed the swimming parties and could count on Ms. Jerry’s snacks and sandwiches, as well as her love for homemade vanilla ice cream. Even after her retirement from the state in December of 2003 from the Department of Children and Families, she continued to watch and care for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren which she said was more of a challenge than any state job! Her Unique Creative Wreaths (which she taught herself to make) will be missed, especially around Christmas time as she loved to give them to friends and family as well as donate to organizations whose clients could not get out and enjoy the holidays. Her strength and fight to the end were part of her amazing personality, an inspiration to all who loved and cared for her. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. A Celebration of Life will be held at Bevis Funeral Home on Saturday, February 8th at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Big Bend Hospice.
