Gilbert William Boettcher

Gilbert W. Boettcher, 75, died peacefully in Tallahassee on October 23, 2013 at Big Bend Hospice from the effects of lung cancer. Gil was born on May 9, 1938 in Milwaukee, the oldest of five children. He was a graduate of St. Boniface and Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. On August 31, 1963, he married Judith Anne Vosika at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hopkins, MN. He moved to Tallahassee in 1995, where he has been a parishioner of Good Shepard Catholic Church. He retired in 2004 after working for 40 years as a sales and marketing executive for various computer hardware and software companies, including Control Data in Minneapolis for 25 years. During his career, Gil also lived in Huntsville, AL, Orlando, FL and the Washington DC area. After retirement, he continued helping others by volunteering at the Tallahassee Lively Technical Center in the welding program for over five years. He was an avid clock hobbyist, a metal worker and enjoyed sailing on the gulf. He enjoyed the mild winters in Tallahassee in contrast to his many years in the cold Midwest. He is survived by his loving wife, Judith, of 50 years and four children: Eileen Boettcher (Gary Patterson); Katherine Miller (Scott); Diane Boettcher (Robert) and Raymond Boettcher (Donna Dianne) and eight grandchildren: Emma Patterson; Caroline and Andrew Miller; Nicholas, Helen, and Joseph Boettcher; and Lucy and Ellen Boettcher. He is also survived by his sister, Millie Boyle of Willmar, MN and his brother, Alex, of Tempe, AZ; sisters-in-law, Sr. Donna Vosika of St. Paul, MN, Dolores Jackson (John) of Nutrioso, AZ; and Patricia Gustafson (Timothy) and Susan Wilm (Terry), both of Minnetonka, MN, and numerous other loving nephews, nieces and friends. The Rosary will be said at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church chapel from 7:00 to 8:00 pm on October 24th, in his remembrance and for friends who wish to offer their prayers. Visitation will be at the Washburn-McReavy Funeral Home in Hopkins, MN from 5 to 8 pm on October 28th. A Requiem Mass will be held at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, St. Joseph campus in Hopkins at 11:00 am on October 29th. Bevis Funeral Home is assisting in the arrangements. The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful support and loving care provided by the Big Bend Hospice staff. Donations in lieu of flowers are requested to the Canadian or American Cancer Society.
