Ida B. Delong

Ida B. “Ruth” Snodgrass DeLong, age 76, passed away at Eden Springs early Thursday morning, 23 July 2020. She was deeply loved by so many. She was born in Pikeville, Ky, on July 4th, 1944. She married her husband of 57 years, Emery N. DeLong Sr. on November 2, 1962 and started her family life in Columbus, OH, and relocated her family to the Woodville, FL area in 1970, which quickly became her home. She had many careers over time, from nursing to cosmetology and even dabbled in real estate. She also spent a large part of her time helping run the family small business owner of DeLong Trucking. She and Emery had three boys, all of which also served this great Nation; Emery Jr. and Shawn Drew, who both served in the Army, and her middle son Mitchell C., who served in the Marine Corps. Those that share her son’s childhood memories knew how strong and loving she was. She never met a soul that she couldn’t find something good to say about them. Her love was not confined by race or choice or any prejudice that could be imagined she gave all the love she had inside her to whom ever needed it at the time. She would never allow anyone to give her unearned assistance for anything as she felt if she took it, it wouldn’t be available for the next person who might need it worse than her or her family. She had unwavering integrity and morals and did everything she could to teach those lessons to all that would listen. If you needed a bed, she would say, “sleep here”, if you needed a meal, she would say, “eat here”, she loved all that needed to be loved, and always gave all of herself in the most selfless manner. She made a difference in so many lives and will be deeply missed. She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Emery N. DeLong Sr. She is survived by three sons, Emery N. DeLong Jr. and his wife Donna of Raeford, NC, Mitchell C. DeLong and Shawn D. DeLong and his wife Grace, all of Wakulla County, FL.; nine grandchildren; 10 Great Grandchildren; a sister, Georgia May Olefield of Wakulla, and one brother-in-law, Andrew DeLong and his wife Gail of Medford, OH. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2020, at the White Primitive Baptists Church Cemetery located at 1900 Lawhon Rd, Tallahassee, FL, (Woodville). Service will be held graveside.
