Jack Dan Moran

Jack Dan Moran, 83, of Bristol, peacefully passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2017, surrounded by his family. Jack was born on March 17, 1934, in Bristol, Florida. He enlisted in the US Air Force in Chamblee, Georgia, on April 23, 1953. Originally a medic, in the early 1960s he was given the opportunity to join the elite Air Force Pararescue Unit (the PJs). Jack would serve his country all over the world. His first tour of duty was in France and on a leave visit to London, England, he met and fell in love with Babs Udall. They married in June 1957, a union that would last for 60 years. As a PJ, he belonged to an exclusive brotherhood and forged unbreakable bonds of loyalty, commitment, and sacrifice. As a member of an elite special forces unit, Jack received numerous medals (including the Airman’s Medal) and commendations throughout his career. He served bravely in Vietnam and had tours of duty in Korea, Guam, Azores and England, before retiring at Tyndall Air Force Base. Jack, along with other members of his Unit, trained with NASA, rescued soldiers during combat missions and civilians in times of emergency. While honoring the PJ motto, "That Others May Live," he often used the skills gained in the many exclusive training schools he attended, including Army Airborne School, Navy underwater diving school, and numerous survival training courses. Jack is survived by his wife Babs Moran, his son Chris (Helen) Moran of Tallahassee, his daughter Kathy (Mike) Fox of Palm Harbor, FL, and his six grandchildren, Daniel, Paul, and Sam Moran and Christopher, Mackenzie, and Kelsey Fox. His love, kindness, and humor will be greatly missed. A visitation and celebration of life will be held at Bevis Funeral Home in Bristol on Friday, November 17, 2017, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Interment in the National Cemetery in Tallahassee, Florida, will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Veterans Memorial Railroad (10561 NW Theo Jacobs Way, Bristol, FL 32321) or Covenant Care Hospice (1921 Capital Circle NE, Tallahassee, FL 32308).
