Jane Posey Turner

Jane Posey Turner passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, August 8, 2025, at age 79 after sustaining a cardiac arrest at home. She died just two days shy of her 57th wedding anniversary to her beloved husband, Benjamin Milner Turner, MD, her high school sweetheart and a retired pathologist. Born on February 9, 1946, Jane grew up in Cordele, Georgia, with her parents, Loran and Rubye Posey, and her two younger brothers, Michael Posey (Jennifer, Santa Rosa, CA) and the late Charles Posey (survived by Diane, Cordele, GA). Jane is survived by her husband, her two daughters, Amanda Turner Davis, MD (Pete, Atlanta, GA), and Susan Turner Lassiter, LMHC (Aaron, Jacksonville, FL), and two grandchildren, Anna Jane and Peter Turner Davis (Atlanta, GA), to whom she was lovingly known as “Ma-J”. Family meant everything to Jane; she was the cornerstone of all of our lives. She leaves behind six nephews (“the Posey boys!”): Doss, Chip, Evan, Alan, Loran, and Dutcher, one niece, Rubye; and her in-laws Wiliam Turner (New York City, NY, identical twin brother of her husband), Ward Milner (Chris, Townsend, GA), Molly Thomas (Cordele, GA), Paul Thomas (Angela, Arcadia, IL), Will Thomas (Joy, Durango, CO), and great-niece Frances (Arcadia, IL). She was also mother to her beloved dachshund, Pippa, and generations of dachshunds before. Music was an invaluable part of Jane’s life. She had the most beautiful singing voice and was an avid pianist, filling our home and our lives with Broadway tunes, hymns, Christmas carols, and songs for every occasion and emotion. She attended Wesleyan College as a voice major and graduated from the University of Georgia with a BS-ED in 1968. After college, she married the love of her life and became a school teacher, sharing her passion for literature and English. She cherished reading and discussing books, art, current events, fashion, film, psychology, and engaging in deep conversations. Once she became a mother, she devoted every day of her life to her children and later to her grandchildren as well as to her beloved husband. Whether spending hours on the phone with her daughters, sending care packages to her grandchildren, or filling each day with cooking and cherished moments alongside her husband, she will be remembered for the boundless love, care, inspiration, and strength she poured into her family. She enjoyed living in Tallahassee, FL since 1977 and was known and adored by everyone who ever met her. Jane had that special way of instantly connecting to people, making them feel special, heard, and truly valued. She was extremely witty, sharp, incredibly stylish, and sometimes “larger-than-life,” but in the best possible way. Jane was the best cook ever, an artist, tennis player, Carl Jung psychology aficionado, cookbook collector, gardener, and dachshund whisperer. She was the brightest spirit, the spunkiest person we know, and stronger than all of us combined. She inspired us all. Rest in peace, and we love you, Jane! The family will be receiving visitors in Jane’s honor on Friday, August 15, from 5-7 pm at Bevis Funeral Home in Tallahassee, FL (200 John Knox Road, 850-385-2193, www.bevisfh.com ). A private family interment of her ashes will take place on Saturday, August 16, at 6 pm in Cordele, Georgia at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
