Jerelyn Juban Witter

Jerelyn Juban Witter died peacefully in Tallahassee. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Ray E. Witter, her beloved only granddaughter, Alexandra Grace Witter, and her brother, Jesse Eugene Juban Jr. She is survived by her son, R. Edward Witter, Jr. (wife Sally) and her daughter Emily Skiles (husband Stephen) as well as three grandsons, Blake Skiles of Tallahassee, Patrick Witter of Tallahassee, Joel Witter of Philadelphia and two great-grandchildren, Shelby and Rhett Witter. Jerelyn was born in Shreveport, LA and graduated from Louisiana Tech in Ruston where she met her husband, Ray. They were both active members of Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church. For decades, Jerelyn and Ray opened their home to exchange students from over ten countries. They lived in Brussels, Belgium for 3 years and traveled all over the world with Ray’s work. One of Jerelyn’s strongest passions was sharing her love of foreign cultures with her children and four beloved grandchildren. Another great love was Pensacola. She loved everything about it: their French-style house, the city, the people, the church and the beach. Hosting family and friends at her beach home was always a great joy to her. She belonged to many groups and gave her time and talents freely to those in need. Delivering Meals on Wheels was a source of pleasure. The Pensacola Jazz Society and her Sunday school class were two groups to which she was especially devoted. Jerelyn will be remembered as a lover of beauty and as a skilled seamstress who was a connoisseur of design and style. She loved music, theater and dancing and sharing those things with friends and family. Above all, she was a dedicated wife, a loving mom and a devoted grandmother and a loyal friend who put her time and abundant energy into doing whatever she could for others. A private family celebration of Jerelyn’s life will be held at a later date.
