John Robert Galeener

John Robert Galeener passed away on November 2, 2019 at the Bertrand Health Center, Westminster Oaks, in Tallahassee, following a brief illness He was born in Springfield, IL on April 19, 1937, the only child of Edmund A. Galeener and Lois Lance Galeener. He is predeceased by both of his parents. A graveside service will be held at noon on Friday, January 17, 2020 at MeadowWood Memorial Park, with a reception immediately following. John is survived by his wife, Loretta Perdue Galeener; his daughter Lisa Galeener; two sons, Lance Galeener and Cliff Rankin; five grandchildren, Amy, Andrea and Alicia Cutrer, Leandra Galeener and Brandi Dean; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his cousins, Sandy Cowan and Larry Newland, as well as Loretta’s family. John grew up in the Chicago area. He graduated from Rich Township High School in Park Forest, IL and received his B.S. degree from Purdue University. After moving to St. Petersburg, Florida, John began a career with Manpower Temporary Services. He later moved to Tallahassee, where he was an owner/manager of the Manpower Service office. After retirement, John worked for 20 years as a security officer at the V.A. Outpatient Clinic in Tallahassee, a job he greatly enjoyed. He was loved and respected by both the staff of the clinic and the veterans who came there for service. John was a member of the Leon County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse for several years. He was also a member of the Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary for 17 years, volunteering countless hours of service to the Florida Highway Patrol. John was a kind and generous man, who had a heart for serving other people. He loved the Lord and his friends at Celebration Baptist Church, where he was a member. John enjoyed watching sports of any kind, travel, and particularly the planning of trips. He spent a lot of time researching and planning the next big trip, which often involved hiking or golf at beautiful destinations, and most of the time included other family members. In 1992, John and Loretta were married and he became part of a big southern family who loved him dearly. He had a great sense of humor, which made him fun to be around. John put his family first and was a support in anything and everything they did. He will be forever missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
