Joseph "Joe" Ross Hannon

A cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Joseph “Joe” Ross Hannon, peacefully passed away on February 19, 2025. Born on June 11, 1941, in Tallahassee, Florida, at Johnstown Hospital, Joe was raised in Woodville, where he developed a deep love for the outdoors. He spent countless weekends at his beach house in St. Teresa Beach, enjoying fishing, hunting, and making memories with his family. After moving to Tallahassee in the 8th grade, Joe attended Leon High School, where he met his high school sweetheart, Nancy Ausley Hannon. In his senior year, he was honored to be elected homecoming king. He made sure his friends kept an eye on Nancy for him, a gesture that spoke to his loyalty and love. Their love story began one memorable day at St. Teresa Beach when Joe knocked on Nancy’s door and asked if she wanted to go water skiing. That moment sparked a lifelong bond, leading to a marriage full of love, adventure, and shared dreams. Joe’s career began with the family business, Woodville Lumber Company, where he cultivated his passion for building. He later founded Joe Hannon Builders, becoming known for his craftsmanship and integrity. Together with his brother, Mike Hannon, Joe co-founded Orange Avenue Industrial Park. His contributions to the lumber industry were recognized when he served as president of the Florida Lumber Association. Joe also dedicated his time to the Maclay School, where he served as chairman of the board for several years, reflecting his commitment to the community. A passionate family man, Joe’s greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, often attending their sporting events and, above all, fishing with them. These cherished moments were among the highlights of his life. Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy, who passed away in 2011. He is survived by his wife, Shirle Connell Hannon, who brought companionship and joy to his later years. He is also survived by his two sons, Russ Hannon (wife Beverly Hannon) and Saxon Hannon; his three adored grandchildren, Joe Hannon (Grace Stec), Brandon Hannon (Francesca Davies), and Parker Hannon, along with Parker’s mother, Sherry Hannon; step-granddaughters, Olivia Hightower and Whitney Hightower; and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe is survived by his loving sister, Charlene Hannon, and his brother, Mike Hannon (wife Julie), with whom he shared many fond memories and moments of laughter. He is also survived by his brother- and sister-in-law, Duby and Sallie Ausley. He was preceded in death by his sister, Kathy Hannon, and his sister-in-law, Anne Ausley Lee. Joe was a man of great warmth, kindness, and generosity, with a love for life that inspired all who knew him. His legacy of hard work, devotion to his family, and unwavering love will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. A celebration of Joe’s life will be held on Thursday, February 27th, 2025, at Bevis Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for friends and family. Joseph Ross Hannon will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
