June Yates Joiner, went to Heaven peacefully at her home in Tallahassee on October 10, 2024. June was born in LaGrange, GA on March 27, 1933 to Winfred and Jennie Lou Yates. Their family moved to Tallahassee when she was four and her dad opened Yates Furniture Company. June graduated from Leon High School in 1951. She met her future husband, Charles, at a Leon High School football game. Charles and June married on October 3, 1951. They moved to Biloxi, MS where Charles was stationed in the USAF. Their son John was born in Biloxi. They returned to Tallahassee in 1954. June began working for her father at Yates Furniture. June closed the furniture store, which had been open for 70 years, in May of 2007. June and Charles were active members of Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church and were among the founding members of the Ed Wynn Sunday School Class. She and Charles were MYF youth leaders. June was also active in the Methodist Women’s Society and the Covenant Choir. Charles and June were married for sixty five years before his death in 2016. Her oldest son, John Charles Joiner, passed away in 2014. She was also preceded in death by her sister Faye and brother Roger. June is survived by her daughter Beth J. Harwood and her husband Al; her son Stacy Y. Joiner and his wife Mayra; two grandchildren Thomas Joiner and Hannah Joiner, and daughter-in-law Karen Joiner Barineau. June also leaves several nieces and nephews, whom she loved. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church on Tuesday, October 15 at 10:00am. The family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall. Burial will be at MeadowWood Memorial Park. The family greatly appreciates the care and support provided by her caregiver, Alice and Big Bend Hospice. The family requests donations be made in June’s memory to Residing Hope, formerly known as The Florida Methodist Children’s Home, or Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church.
