Kathleen Joan Lensch

Kathleen (Kay) Joan Lensch, born on November 12, 1934, in Humacao, Puerto Rico, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Kay lived a life marked by love, service, and devotion to her family and community. Kay was the daughter of Naval Surgeon Capt. Ralph Mugrage and Lucille Mugrage. Growing up in a military family, she traveled to places like Greece, embracing the experiences that shaped her adventurous spirit. She married Lt. Colonel John Phillip Lensch, and together they traveled to Okinawa and across the United States, building a life rooted in love and commitment. As a military housewife and talented home cook, Kay raised her 5 children, created a warm and nurturing home for her family which was filled with the aromas of her cherished recipes. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was an active member of Epiphany Lutheran Church in Tallahassee, where she found joy in serving her community. Her passion for cooking and her dedication to her church were reflections of her generous and caring nature. Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Colonel John Phillip Lensch, and her sister, Patricia (Patty) Williams. She is survived by her siblings, Michael (Mike) Mugrage (married to Patty) and Sharron Pilant. Kay leaves behind a loving family, including her surviving children: Susan Bechard (Bruce), John (Jay) Lensch Jr., Dr. David Lensch (Gina); children: Daniel, Matthew, Wes and Sarah, Patricia (Patty) Steinberger; children: Jennifer and Megan, and Brian Lensch (Dian); son: Jacob. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Landon, Brody, Brennan, Landry, and Emma, who brought immense joy to her life. A Special Military Service honoring both Kay and her husband, John, will take place on October 3, 2025 at 12:00PM at the Tallahassee National Cemetery. A Memorial Service to celebrate Kay’s life will be held on October 4, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Tallahassee. The service will be live-streamed and saved to YouTube for those unable to attend in person. Kay’s legacy lives on through the love she shared, the meals she prepared, and the faith she embodied. Her warmth, kindness, and adventurous spirit will forever remain in the hearts of her family, friends, and community.
