Lanette S. Burton

Lanette Scherdin Burton, 76, of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 21st, 2025. Born on June 8th, 1949, in Tallahassee, Lanette was a proud lifelong resident of the city she loved. She is a 1967 graduate of Florida State University School (Florida High) and was married to the love of her life, Dale Jay Burton on August 31st, 1984. She was a long-time member of Saint Paul's United Methodist Church - her amazing love for the Lord surpassed most others. A spirited and devoted FSU fan, Lanette loved getting decked out in her Seminole gear and cheering on her favorite team surrounded by friends and family. Lanette brought joy, laughter, and warmth to everyone around her at all times. She retired from Leon County Property Appraiser's Office after many dedicated years of service, and throughout her life, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. From the yearly family vacations, holiday gatherings, and Mexico Beach trips with her grandchildren, Lanette loved nothing more than being with the ones she truly loved the most and loved her the same in return. Lanette also had an extraordinary gift for connection - as she could make a friend with anyone, anywhere, at any time. She was a jokester and a talker - her sense of humor was unmatched, and her heart, immeasurable. Lanette is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dale Jay Burton; her mother, Florence McKinnon Scherdin; and her brother, Ronald H. Scherdin. She is survived by her beloved son, Brooks Burton and wife (Tori Burton) of Tallahassee; her four cherished grandchildren, Brantley Burton, Georgia Burton, Everett Burton, and another grandbaby on the way soon to arrive; her brother Robert L. Scherdin, Jr. and wife (Beverly Scherdin) of Crossville, TN; sister-in-law, Kay Scherdin of Havana, FL; and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews who will forever remember her warmth, wit, and generous spirit. Lanette leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty - a life well lived and will be deeply cherished forever. Special thanks to Big Bend Hospice, Tallahassee, FL for the compassionate care they provided to Lanette in her final days. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service to celebrate Lanette's life, to be held on Saturday, July 12th, 2025 at 4:00 PM at the Bevis Funeral Home Chapel in Tallahassee, FL. She will be laid to rest at Oakland Cemetery in Tallahassee, Florida at a later date.
