Lorene Johnson Wilson

Lorene Wilson, affectionately know as “Mimi”, formerly of Lake Hamilton, Florida, passed away Sunday, September 8 at Big Bend Hospice House after a long, full life. Lorene was born in Butler, Georgia, on April 7, 1922, to John Alan Johnson and Florene Williamson Johnson. She spent most of her childhood in Georgia. On November 7, 1941 she married Kenneth Wilson. They resided in Lake Hamilton until 2006 when they moved to Tallahassee to be close to their family. Lorene worked in the U. S. Post Office, Washington, D.C, during WWII. After the war ended she and Kenneth moved to Florida where she ran a restaurant for DiGeorgio Fruit Company in Haines City, Florida. They owned and operated a long distance trucking business for almost 50 years until his retirement. Lorene also worked for WalMart for 15 years and the U. S. Post Office in Lake Hamilton. She enjoyed doing crafts, cooking and gardening. She was active in her church, a member of the Women of the Church, Lake Hamilton Presbyterian Church as well as the Woman’s Club of Lake Hamilton. Mimi is survived by a daughter, Lynn Cox (Tom) and son, Ken Wilson (Ann) of Tallahassee, She is also survived by five grandchildren, Chris Cox of Big Sky, MT; Darbi Cox of Tampa; and Meghan Mick (Russ) of Tallahassee; Kelly Wilson Garland (Mark) of Tallahassee; Kevin Wilson (Sarah) of Neptune Beach; five great-grandchildren, Katie Garland, Grace Garland, Kasey Mick Lowell Mick and Marshall Wilson; sisters Betty Freeze and Jeanette Bailey of Winter Haven, Florida; brother, Willis Johnson (Virginia) of Haines City, Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Lake Hamilton Presbyterian Church, Post Office Box 116, Lake Hamilton, Florida, 33851 or Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Boulevard, Tallahassee, 32308 or Faith Presbyterian Church, 2200 North Meridian Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32301. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 12, at 4 p.m. at Faith Presbyterian Church, 2200 North Meridian Road, with a reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall.
