Honorable Majesty Becton Strickland

The Honorable Majesty Becton Strickland, lifelong Sopchoppy native and longtime Postmaster died peacefully in her Sopchoppy home surrounded by her family on October 11, 2021. Born July 14, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Boen Wadsworth Becton and Marjorie Love Warren Becton of Panacea, FL. She was the great-granddaughter of the founder of Sopchoppy, John Calhoun-Hodge (Mary Ella Truluck Hodge). She is survived by her three children, Kimberly Strickland Roddenberry (Thurman), Kelly Strickland Wright (Lee), and Robert Boen "Bo" Strickland (Heather); six grandchildren, Becton James Roddenberry (Casey), Kelsey Mercedes Edwards (Matt), Brooklyn Love Roddenberry (Taylor), Karlee Marie Miller (Austin), Bailey Hope Strickland, and Gracie Love Strickland; her sister, Marjorie Carol Becton Thompson; sister-in-law, Julynn Strickland Trent; five nephews and nieces, Carol Nicole Lyons, Erin Thompson (Hal), Justin David Trent (Melissa), Ashley Trent Sechrist (Zachary), and Douglas Robert Trent; six great nephews/nieces, Gentry David Jackson, Mackenzie Grace Dunn, Nicholas Oliver Barwick, Tristen Ein Pittman, Cy Grayson Dunn, and Blake David Sechrist; and three loving caretakers, Diane Bell, Tyra Jackson, and Katina Rosier. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Douglass Strickland; grandson, Robert Boen Strickland II; son-in-law, David Wright; brother-in-law, David Trent; and five uncles/aunts, Mary Ella Becton Wilson, Bobby Warren, Laura Jean Shaffer, Muriel Tully, and Jewel Sammons. Majesty graduated from Sopchoppy High School in 1957 where she played on the girl's basketball team. She later became Postal Clerk of Sopchoppy in the early 1970's, subsequently promoted to Postmaster in 1985, where she served the Sopchoppy community in that capacity for 14 years. Majesty was a gifted genealogist, and her wealth of knowledge of Wakulla County Genealogy & History served her remarkably well as a member of the Wakulla County Historical Society. Her numerous publications on the History of Sopchoppy are still widely used amongst other Wakulla County historians and genealogists. Majesty was also a member of the Wakulla County Garden Club, and enjoyed gardening at her Sopchoppy home. She was a member of the Sopchoppy Homemakers and published many recipes for the community to enjoy. She was a devout member of Sopchoppy United Methodist Church and loved her church family. Later in life she became a devoted and loving grandmother of seven, and enjoyed retirement traveling with her husband Doug of 53 years.
