Martha Rae Mills

Martha Rae Albritton Mills was born in Shady Grove, Florida, December 14, 1929 to Monroe and Mattie Lee Albritton and passed away peacefully August 21, 2015. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Owen Otto Mills; her sister Virginia Fouraker and brothers, Lamar and Carlton Albritton. After attending Shady Grove Elementary and Taylor High School she married the love of her life and moved to Cocoa later to Titusville, Fl. When her grandchildren were born she and Owen made it a goal to move to Tallahassee to be closer to family and eventually did in 2002. She loved her family church, Hendry Memorial Methodist Church in Shady Grove but her heart and friends were at Saint Paul’s UMC, too, in Tallahassee. A loving and caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, she had a passion for family and home and enjoyed sewing, arts and crafts, and cooking which she had mastered into an art form, especially her seven layer chocolate fudge cake that was always requested at gatherings. From Sunday weekly meals, to attending her two grandchildren’s school events and family reunions she hoped to instill the values of family and roots. She was kind, loving, and a genuinely good person, one who will be missed by those who knew her. To all she was a southern belle who never left home without looking like the magnolia she was; sweet, soft-spoken and not a hair out of place, but to us, her family, she was Mom, Grandmother and Gma, a hard act to follow. Martha is survived by her son, Edward Mills and daughter-in-law Carmen Votey-Mills and her two grandchildren, Christopher and Savannah of Tallahassee; her son, Duane Mills of Long Beach, California; and her sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Calvin Touchton of Greenville, Fl. A visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, August 24 from 6-8 p.m. at Bevis Funeral Home on North Monroe Street, Tallahassee. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25 at Robert M. Hendry Memorial Methodist Church in Shady Grove, Florida; Martha will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will follow at the Hendry Memorial Cemetery in Shady Grove. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 26th at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers the family politely requests that memorial contributions may be made to the Robert M. Hendry Memorial Methodist Church, P.O.
