Mrs. Mary Newsome Ceci

Mary Newsome Ceci, 80, of Tallahassee, FL, passed away peacefully at home on November 18, 2013. She was born February 28, 1933, in Furman, AL, to Presley Isaiah Newsome and Elizabeth Griffin Newsome. Mary graduated in 1953 from Saint Joseph’s School of Nursing in Atlanta, GA, and began her career as a Registered Nurse. She and her husband Cy moved to Tallahassee in 1958. Cy attended Florida State University while Mary worked at the University Infirmary. Mary took a break from nursing to raise her children and could often be found volunteering as a homeroom mother and in the school clinic. She returned to her professional nursing career with the State of Florida at Sunland Hospital. The care of children with special needs became the focus of her life’s work. Every child who entered her life was enriched by her fun, playful, and caring spirit. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard N. “Cy” Ceci in 1986 and her brother David P. Newsome, in 2013. She is survived by her son, Leonard G. Ceci (Leigh); daughters, Catherine Ceci, Laura Martin (Rick Hume), Michele Ceci (Clay Brower) and Patricia Ceci Sharp (Brad); her beloved grandchildren, Christopher Bartels, Hannah Hume, Luke Ceci, and Laura Ceci; her sister, Sara Satterfield (Robert); her special nieces and nephews, Renee Uhlir (John), Nick Satterfield (Cheryl), Lee Satterfield, Courtney Rogers (AJ), Nikolas Satterfield and William Satterfield. Also left to honor her memory are cousins, Samuel Woodson (Ouida), David Woodson (Tina) and Annabelle Rodzon; son-in-law, Richard Bartels; and many more loving family members and friends. Services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, November 23, 2013, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow at the Columbarium on the Church premises. Family will receive friends immediately following at a reception hosted by the Saint Catherine’s Circle in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blessed Sacrament Church, Columbarium Fund, 624 Miccosukee Road, Tallahassee, FL 32308 or to Catholic Charities, 1380 Blountstown Highway Tallahassee, Florida 32361.
