Mary V. Horner

Mary V. Horner died December 8th surrounded by her children at her home. She was born July 17th, 1925 in Bloomington, Illinois, the daughter of Catherine Eugenia Dooley and Chauncey Van Note. She was a graduate of St. Clara College, Sinsinawa, Wisconsin. She married Robert B. Horner on December 22nd, 1946 and they moved from Illinois to Jacksonville, Florida in 1948 where Mr. Horner practiced law until his retirement in 1978 when they moved to Tallahassee. Mr. Horner died in 1979. Mrs. Horner was a woman with many interests, who loved and cherished a wide circle of friends. She had been a partner in Commodore Travel from 1985 to 1993 and had travelled extensively. In the early years of her married life she assumed numerous church and community responsibilities. She was a life member of The Garden Club of Jacksonville and a past board member and a past president of Ginger Circle. For a number of years she wrote a weekly garden column in the Florida Times Union. Her greatest joy in life, however, were the members of her family. She took pride in all their accomplishments and loved to be in their company. She had a great determination to live life fully and with enthusiasm. Mrs. Horner is survived by daughters Mary Susan Philbrick, Kathy Quina ( Marshall ), Barbara Hall ( Russell ) , Alison Cline ( Steve ), Janet Taylor and two sons, Robert Mark and Charles Thomas ( Amy ) and grandchildren Robert and Marc Adam Philbrick, Jennifer Bell Howard ( Jeff ), Marshall III, Drew and Lisa Quina , Russell and Susanne Hall, Christopher and Matthew Horner, Courtney Horner Spinelli ( Joseph ) and great-grandchildren Finnegan Howard, Annabelle and Joseph Spinelli, Sidney and Stevie McConkey, and Adriane Rose Horner. A visitation will be held Friday the 14th of December at Bevis Funeral Home, 200 John Knox Rd, Tallahassee from 6:00 to 7:30 PM with a Rosary service to follow. A memorial requiem Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 15th at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 624 Miccosukee Rd, Tallahassee. The Mass will be followed by an inurnment in the parish columbarium adjoining the Church. A reception will be held in the parish hall.
