Mary Taylor Olive

Mary Taylor Olive, passed away June 9, 2018. She was born in Quincy, Florida on December 2, 1938 to Judge Hugh Taylor and Martha Corry Taylor. She graduated from Gadsden County High School in 1956 and three years later received her BA degree from Florida State University. Mary’s interest were reading, she would read two to three books a week, gardening, spending time at the beach, home decorating and pursuing her interests in art, particularly painting for which she had an exceptional talent. Mary illustrated the jacket of Governor Leroy Collins authored book Forerunner’s Courageous and the jacket of Kenan Miles Womack authored book Gadsden, a Florida County in Word and Picture. She was a director on the first Board of Tallahassee Ballet Company. Mary was employed as Director of the Art Department of the former Florida Development Commission while her husband attended law school at Florida State University. She was also a member of the Tallahassee Junior League. Bob and Mary met in Quincy in the summer of 1957 and married in 1959. They enjoyed an extraordinarily blessed life and loving marriage for over 60 years. Mary is survived by her husband, Bob Olive, their daughters, Martha Olive-Hall (Bill) and Liza Olive Thompson (John) and a daughter-in-law, Shannon Taylor, brother, Jeff Taylor (Mary Catherine), sister-in-law and dear friend Becky Olive Payne and brother-in-law, Ron Payne, grandchildren; Melissa Ann Stratton (Dave), Carrah Olive-Hall, Hill Thompson, William Hall (Whitney), Dan Hall and Becky Hall, great-granddaughters; Taylor Dawn Stratton and Autumn Jean Hall, many nieces and nephews and her special friend, JoAnn Jones of Quincy, FL who first met in kindergarten and were roommates at Florida State University and as adults met every Wednesday for lunch. She is preceded in death by her parents Judge Hugh Taylor and Martha Corry Taylor and her son, Hugh Taylor Olive. To her many friends, who knew her well and how very private a person she was, therefore, we will honor her wishes to be buried at sea and hold a private ceremony at her beach home in Watercolor at a later date. Thank you for loving our mother and making her life even more special. We can all take comfort knowing that she is now with her parents and her son.
