Mary Ann Thorner

Mary Ann Thorner, 74, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026, just one day before her 75th birthday. Born on July 2, 1953, she lived a life marked by faith, devotion to family, creativity, and a deep appreciation for God’s creation. Mary Ann shared nearly fifty years of marriage with her beloved husband, Walter Thorner. Together, they built a loving home filled with warmth, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Their life together was anchored by simple joys—shared meals, long conversations, and the steady companionship that comes from a lifetime of love and commitment. Above all, she cherished her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, and found great happiness in family gatherings, holiday traditions, and the simple, everyday moments shared with those she loved. For many years, she served as an Accounting Supervisor for the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, where she was admired for her professionalism, strong work ethic, and kindness toward others. She was the kind of colleague who remembered birthdays, offered encouragement without being asked, and made even the busiest days feel a little lighter with her calm presence and quick smile. A woman of Christian faith, Mary Ann was known for her compassion, generosity, gentle spirit, and steadfast love for her family. She found joy in travel and in the natural beauty of places such as Hawaii, California, Vermont, the Teton Mountains, Columbia, and the mountains of the eastern United States. She especially loved being outdoors, where she could take in the beauty of a sunrise, a blooming flower, or a quiet mountain view. She also treasured the peace and comfort of her home in Georgia, where she created a welcoming place for family and friends. Mary Ann was a gifted gardener and accomplished fiber artist, creating beautiful works that will be treasured for generations. She took great pride in tending her flowers and plants and watching things grow, and she poured the same care and patience into everything she did. Her hands were rarely still, and her creativity was matched by the love she put into each project. She is survived by her husband, Walter Thorner; her daughter, Elizabeth Medcalf; her son, Noah Thorner; her grandson, Jase Medcalf; and her sisters, Pat Dengler and Cyndee Livingston. She was preceded in death by her parents, Duncan and Lillian Livingston, and her brother, David. Mary Ann’s legacy is one of faith, love, grace, and quiet strength. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all whose lives she touched. A Memorial Service will be July 10 at 10:00 am at Bevis Funeral in Tallahassee.
