Michael Lewis Sandberg

Michael Lewis Sandberg, born January 30, 1948, in the Bronx of New York, and passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025 in hospice care at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, Florida. He is survived by his wife, Arlene Sandberg, of 55 years. Michael was the son of Nathan and Celia Sandberg, and the brother of Elissa Conway. Raised in the Bronx, he went to college at Kansas State University and was part of the Army ROTC program, and although he majored in Meat Science with a dream of Veterinary School, he was commissioned into the military and spent nearly 30 years active duty. During that time, Michael and his family traveled the world and spent time in Massachusetts, Virginia, Hawaii, Korea, Pennsylvania, Alaska and he additionally traveled to several other countries on short tours. After retirement, Michael took a position as a civilian in Alaska, a company in Alabama and in Northern Virginia before settling in Tallahassee where his two children and grandchildren resided. Michael loved hunting and fishing, often storing up freezers full of salmon and halibut. He also loved animals and was often resting with his many cats, Willy, Hershey Bar, Princess Squiggles, and Dreyfuss. Michael and Arlene loved to travel and cruise in their official retirement, and went with several couples on special river cruises in Europe as well as on major cruise lines to other coastal destinations in Europe, South America, Canada, Iceland, Africa and many others. Michael was tough, but he was also a loving husband and father and grandfather. He is survived by his spouse, Arlene, children Marci (Harold) and David (Kristen), Melissa, his grandchildren: Lexi (Adam), Saxon, Liam, Chad, Aden, Ella and step children Morgan, Clint, Alice and Malaly. And Great grandchildren Luke and Brooklyn. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister. The funeral service/celebration of life will be held at Bevis Funeral Home, 200 John Knox Rd in Tallahassee, Florida on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 1:00pm, the viewing/visitation will be from 1:00 to 1:30 and service will be from 1:30 to 2:00. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to Big Bend Hospice.
