Natalie Joan Hewes

Natalie Joan Hewes, 91, of Fort Wayne, Indiana has passed away. In 1926, Natalie was born in Fort Wayne to Max and Coral Schultz. She was predeceased by her parents and brother, Raymond J. Schultz. After graduating from South Side High School in 1943, Natalie attended Purdue University earning a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics in 1947. She later received her Master of Science in Education in 1972, while working full time and raising her family. Natalie solely raised her three children, Cliff Hewes (Toledo, OH), Jerry Hewes (Fremont, IN), and Debara Jump (Tallahassee, FL). She also helped raise her grandchildren, Wesley and Cierra (Clifford), Hannah and Jacob (Jerry), Natalie Jump (Debara), and great grandson, Colton (Clifford) all of who miss her terribly. She began her career teaching middle school and soon after began teaching home economics at Central High School until it closed in 1971. After it was closed, Natalie was promoted to Department Head of Home Economics at the then newly built Northrop High School where she later retired early to care for her mother. Natalie loved spending time at her second home on Clear Lake, and visiting and enjoying her grandchildren. One of her favorite past times was eating out and shopping with her very dear friend and cousin, Leona Mitchell. Until recently, she enjoyed monthly lunches with the teachers she had worked with over the years. In 2015 she moved to Tallahassee, FL to spend more time with her daughter, Debara and granddaughter, Natalie. Debara and Natalie would like to express their sincere gratitude to Tabitha Whitten (Senior Transitions) and the staff at Allegro. A Celebration of Life will be held at Plymouth Congregational Church, Fort Wayne, Indiana on August 16 at 11 am with family visitation prior to the service at 10 am. Graveside service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Ossian, Indiana will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 111 E Ludwig Rd, Suite 105, Fort Wayne, IN 46825.
