Nell G. Carlton

Nell Gore Carlton, age 88, passed away on May 31, 2023, in the company of her two boys. Nell was born on August 19, 1934, in Camilla, Georgia. Nell was the youngest daughter of James and Autry Gore. Nell grew up in Camilla. She graduated from Mitchell County High School in 1953. Nell married Delma “Dell” Carlton of Meigs, Georgia, in August 1954. The wedding ceremony was held at Meigs Baptist Church. Nell and Dell shared a loving marriage of 65 years. While newlyweds, Nell and Dell moved to Tallahassee, Florida, to start their lives together. Nell was employed at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital until the birth of her first son. Nell loved being a mother so much that she chose to be a stay-at-home mom. Nell stayed involved with her boy’s activities and volunteered wherever she could. In whatever she did, she made many friends that would last a lifetime. Nell was a charter member of Forest Heights Baptist Church and later a member of Thomasville Road Baptist Church. She enjoyed serving her local church by sharing her talents on multiple committees, many of which spotlighted her passion for serving others. Nell always had a giving heart and made friends easily. She enjoyed hosting friends for dinner and sharing her love of cooking and baking. She was often heard to say “Let me know when we can get together and get a burger.” Nell is preceded in death by her loving husband, Dell, her mother and father, as well as four brothers and three sisters. Nell is survived by her two sons: Richard (Chrisy) and Stacy (Gayle); five grandchildren: Neil, Joey Hollis (Audrey), Kelsey, Chase, and Ryan; two great-grandchildren: Elijah Burns and Gavin Hollis; and two brothers: Wayne and Mack. The family will be receiving guests for a visitation on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00PM with a funeral service celebrating her life Wednesday June 7, 2023 at 12:00PM at Bevis Funeral Home. The committal service will be held at the Tallahassee National Cemetery at 2:00PM.
